MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of related experience with knowledge in a specialized field as carpentry is required. A valid Texas Driverβs
License is required and must be in possession at all times when operating an AISD vehicle. Education requirements are not
specified.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires that the incumbent perform a wide variety of new construction work as well as maintenance repairs.
Incumbent must also have the ability to interpret installation instructions and drawings, follow oral and written instructions,
and the use of simple arithmetic. Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry and the
ability to use hand and power tools. The incumbent must have the ability to follow written and verbal instruction and work
independently. The ability to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related
information in a timely manner to other employees, customers, fellow employees, management, school staff, and
administrators is required.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
This position performs a wide variety of carpenter duties, both new construction and maintenance. Under general
supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures
throughout the district. Maintain district structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
β’ Repair doors, windows, steps, ceilings, wooden floors, student lockers, and restroom partitions.
β’ Replace defective wood and re-glues or fastens wall paneling.
β’ Repair doors, windows, steps, ceilings, wooden floors, and restroom partitions.
β’ Read blueprints and diagrams.
β’ Detect and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection andmaintenance procedures.
β’ Select material and hardware and calculate time and materials estimates.
β’ Assist with the installation of portable buildings including constructing steps and installing underpinning.
β’ Receive and complete work orders. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
β’ Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
β’ Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and excess materials are removed as needed.

β’ Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
β’ Work with building principals and supervisors to schedule and complete projects.
β’ Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
β’ Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
β’ Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate toolsand equipment according to established safety procedures.
β’ Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable tosupervisor.
β’ Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
β’ Replace glass, building hardware, screens, countertops, etc.
β’ Create sound treatments.
β’ Replace football and gymnasium bleacher seats.
β’ Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that
promote a culture of respect.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations
driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform
the essential functions of this job. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance for
this position is required.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the appropriate supervisor of the department. Incumbent will supervise helpers when the work
requires their assistance.
