Carpenter
Job Purpose:Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures using materials, such as wood, plywood, or steel forms utilizing carpenter’s hand tools and power tools and conforming to plans, specifications, and local, state, and federal building codes.
Roles, Duties, & Responsibilities:
• Reads and understands blue prints, sketches, building plans, and drawings.
• Selects specified dimensional lumber or other material.
• Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
• Verifies trueness of structure goals.
• Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
• Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures.
• Loads and unloads lumber and other material as required.
• Prepares layout using rule, framing square, and calipers.
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
• Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, screws, or glue.
• May weld metal parts to steel structural members.
• Adheres to all Hunter Contracting Co. safety policies, procedures and instructions from management.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Work Qualifications:
• Works within precise standards of accuracy.
• Rates information using standards, which can be measured or checked.
• Compares and sees differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
• Looks at flat drawings or pictures and understands how they would look as solid objects.
• Follows oral and written directions, plans, and blue prints.
• Ability to work without close supervision and be able to adapt to a wide variety of conditions.
• Takes pride in craftsmanship.
• Manual dexterity and the ability to solve math problems quickly and accurately are necessary for those who wish to become top craftsmen.
• Learns quickly on the job.
• Has ongoing learning
• Approaches work in a meticulous, thorough, and detailed manner.
Education & Work Experience Requirements:
• Completion of an accredited Carpenter Apprentice Program, OR
• Four (4) + years of prior Carpenter experience.
