City Editor

Summary:
The Boulder Daily Camera and Longmont Times-Call newspapers in Boulder County, Colo., are looking for an experienced journalist to serve as an Day Deputy City Editor, working weekdays in our Boulder newsroom directing live coverage and editing daily and longer-term stories for the newspapers' websites and print editions.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with a minimum of three years of experience as an editor, who is a skilled wordsmith and master of AP style, who has a sharp eye for detail, and who can work closely with our reporting staff to improve both their storytelling and reporting. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can remain calm and collected - and make smart decisions - in high-stress, deadline situations.
The Day Deputy City Editor will be responsible for helping to coordinate our news coverage of Boulder County, as well as maintaining and updating the websites of the Camera, Times-Call, and their sister newspapers. Other duties will be assigned as necessary. Candidates should have experience working with web content-management systems and be well-versed in social media and search-engine optimization.
What you will bring:

• A degree in journalism or communication, or equivalent experience
• Three to five years of experience as an editor at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
• Relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
• Proven ability to direct reporters through breaking news situations and post accurate stories online quickly
• Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
• Understanding of the imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
• Ability to beat production deadlines
• Ability to contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
• Willingness to experiment with new digital tools and platforms

Additional information:

• This editor must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary or if news requires
• This editor must live in the area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered) and be willing to come into the office on occasion

The annual salary is $50,000.00.
