Job Description

Reportingto the Maternal Child Services Director, this position requires fullunderstanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of RedlandsCommunity Hospital and the nursing department. The Clinical Nurse Specialist(CNS) is a licensed registered nurse that has graduate preparation (master’s ordoctorate) in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist. CNSs are one of fourcategories of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) as identified by theAPRN Consensus Model, National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN),State Boards of Nursing, American Nurses Association (ANA) and InternationalCouncil of Nurses (ICN). The role of a CNS provides leadership and clinicalexpertise within the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS)spheres of impact by utilizing unique and advanced level competencies. TheNeonatal CNS is responsible in collaboration with Redlands Community HospitalLeadership and staff for ensuring the provision of nursing care meets standardsidentified in professional literature, the standards statements of professionalorganizations and state and federal regulations. The CNS serves as a clinicalexpert, resource, and mentor for staff. Focuses on the needs of the patients,interacts with others in the Department of Nursing and in Ancillary Services toserve patients and their families. Participates in the development oforientation programs, didactic presentations, and clinical mentoring for noviceto expert practitioners. Promotes continuity and quality care using data andperformance improvement into practice. May perform other duties as assigned.Follows Redlands Community Hospital rules, policies, procedures, applicablelaws, and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment ofRedlands Community Hospital whileadhering to the Patients First philosophy of safety, compassion, and efficiency.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of Master’s degree Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist program required ; Doctorate of Nursing preferred.
  • Four years’ experience in acute care nursing with two years in area of specialty required.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
  • Two years’ experience with program/course design, presentation, and evaluation preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of computer (Word, Excel, and e-mail functions) required.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Current California State RN license required.
  • Current California State Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Current NRP certification required; instructor certification preferred.
  • National Certification in area of expertise (RNC-NIC or CCRN) preferred.
  • STABLE certification preferred upon hire; required within 3 months of hire.
