Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Review patient medical records to confirm and interpret sleep study orders, ensuring alignment with clinical indications and appropriate study protocols
- Explain the sleep study process, including setup and monitoring procedures, to patients and caregivers; answer questions to promote comfort and cooperation
- Prepare and apply electrodes, sensors, and other monitoring equipment following AASM guidelines and organizational protocols
- Initiate and perform overnight polysomnographic recordings, including diagnostic, titration, and split‐night studies, in compliance with policy and AASM standards
- Continuously observe and analyze sleep stages, breathing patterns, cardiac activity, limb movements, and other physiological data; intervene as needed
- Administer CPAP, BiPAP, or other respiratory therapies during titration or split‐night studies according to physician orders and patient response
- Document observations, interventions, and patient behaviors during the study in real time; ensure all data is recorded accurately
- Wake the patient upon study completion, remove all sensors and electrodes, and assist with post‐study hygiene and comfort as needed
- Score collected data using AASM scoring manual guidelines, prioritizing accuracy and timeliness
- Participate in monthly inter‐scorer reliability activities to ensure consistency and accuracy in scoring
- Notify the Medical Director, Clinical Manager, or Physician Assistant of any significant or adverse changes in the patient's condition during the study
- Assist in the orientation and training of new technicians by demonstrating procedures and sharing knowledge
Position Qualifications
Minimum Required:
- Associates Degree or Certification from an Accredited School in Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy.
- NY State License: Registered Polysomnographic Technician OR Respiratory Therapist
- Receive CPR within one (1) week of start date.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in Sleep Medicine.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in an office environment that requires working in proximity to other employees and patients.
- The office is air conditioned as well as heated.
- Exposure to equipment cleaning solutions and disinfectants is possible.
- Be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Work in a dark environment/low light.
- Occasionally work alone.

- School Age: 6 to 12 Years
- Adolescent: 13 to 17 Years
- Early Adulthood: 18 to 45 Years
- Middle Adult: 46 to 59 Years
- Late Adult: 60 to 79 Years
- Elderly: 80+ Years
HIPAA Roles‐Based Access to Patient Information
- Clinical ‐ Access to patient information that is not restricted (an example of restricted information is ARU) ‐ Level 3.
