Location: This position can work a hybrid model (remote and office) or fully remote model. Ideal candidates will live within 50 miles of one of our PulsePoint locations.
The Cloud Database Engineer performs analysis and research of systems and networks. Reviews detailed business and technical requirements in order to recommend technical solutions.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Provide Day 2 administration in cloud database maintenance and life cycle management.
- Manage mission critical production workloads on MySQL, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL and other Cloud native databases.
- Work with developers to improve database resiliency and improve/implement auto remediation techniques.
- Influence database architecture design components.
- Provide support for large scale database instances across production, non-production and development environments.
- Participate in the design of the enterprise architecture. Proposes opportunities to improve results based on targeted or continuous assessment.
- Provide guidance, assistance, and technical leadership with public cloud databases.
- Work closely with development teams, cloud security & compliance, and infrastructure teams, etc. to execute on auto scaling and right sizing cloud database cost saving initiatives.
- Execute in migrating on-prem databases to cloud-based infrastructure databases.
- Make recommendations and/or drive technical remediation of cloud database issues and troubleshooting.
- Prepare documentation and cloud database metric to senior leadership and technical teams.
- Manage and maintain our AWS cloud infrastructure, including RDS PostgreSQL databases.
- Design and implement highly available, scalable, and secure database solutions in AWS.
- Work closely with developers and other stakeholders to optimize database performance and ensure data integrity.
- Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for our databases.
- Monitor and troubleshoot database issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Automate database administration tasks using scripting and/or configuration management tools.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud and database technologies and provide recommendations for improving our infrastructure.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide support for critical database issues.
- Create solution designs that address mildly complex solutions to address business needs.
- Develop standard solutions from business requirements and architectural specifications.
- Design complex system and network upgrades.
- Validate the detailed architecture requirements for an application/technology to conform to the current and target architecture and standards.
- Consult project and application support groups regarding architecture concerns.
- Designs and analyzes mix of vendor services meeting business requirements.
- Perform capacity analysis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study and a minimum of 3 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:
- 3 years of public cloud experience, particularly in AWS
- 3 years of experience as a cloud DBA, with a focus on Aurora MySQL, RDS MySQL, RDS PostgreSQL in a cloud native environment
- 2+ years of experience with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform) including Ansible, Shell scripting, Python is desired
- Hands-on knowledge with one or more of the following: MySQL, PostgreSQL, RDS, Oracle, SQL Server
- Demonstrates maturity and understanding of cloud database provisioning in one or more public cloud (AWS, Azure, and GCP) offerings, in particular AWS
- Experience conducting database migrations using AWS services: VPC/SG, EC2, S3, Autoscaling, CloudFormation, Snowflake, RDS, Aurora, AWS DMS, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Docker, Lambda etc.
- Solid understanding of distributed computing environments
- Experience in troubleshooting and debugging queries
- Working in a fast-paced environment and also be able to adjust your workflow to fit the task at hand
- Working knowledge of provisioning and automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, Shell scripting, Python is desired
- Working knowledge of migration tools like AWS DMS and SCT, Oracle Goldengate preferred
- Working knowledge of collaboration tools like Confluence, JIRA, Sharepoint, and Bitbucket
- Experience in defining, developing, and implementing automated processes for cloud databases (monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, tagging, etc.)
For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary* range for this specific position is $77,440 to $139,392.
