Cloud Solution Architect

RS21 is seeking a Cloud Solutions Architect to support our work redesigning, developing, and testing of a new software system for our federal government client. 

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure modern cloud-native applications for our client. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and project managers, to understand business requirements and translate them into effective cloud architectures. Your expertise in cloud technologies and services will enable you to guide the development and deployment of cloud solutions that align with industry best practices. 

You will be working within the team environment of our client, in addition to working daily with our partner organization and RS21 subject matter experts. This position can be remote or can work in a hybrid environment out of our Albuquerque, NM office. This role is contingent upon selection of the award. Candidates must be able to obtain a Department of Commerce Public Trust clearance. 

Responsibilities: 

• Review processing prototype requirements (functional and non-functional) to formulate an approach to create a secure cloud-native application architecture in which to create the prototype applications in AWS GovCloud. Document the secure cloud-native application architecture.  
• Assist Census staff with the OCIO Secure Cloud Team on identifying AWS GovCloud infrastructure/service needed for the prototypes. Document the cloud infrastructure architecture for the prototypes. 
• Identify and document microservice prototypes to create for the data processing inputs; create a schedule for the stage deployment of the data processing inputs.
• Design systems and subsystems or identify alternate solutions.
• Manage system development and support for cloud solutions using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, other accepted design techniques and industry standard or open- source tools.
• Manage cloud system implementations, and direct improvements.
• Design prototypes which implement containerization, adoption of microservices and server-less architecture that address the quick application scale up and down and thus, optimizing cloud resources (compute cost) 

 Qualifications: 

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience with designing complex systems 
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). 
• Proficiency in designing and deploying cloud infrastructure, including networking, storage, compute, and security components.
• Familiarity with cloud services, such as databases, containers, serverless computing, data analytics, and machine learning.
• Experience with cloud migration strategies, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and refactoring.
• Solid understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements in cloud environments.
• Ability to analyze and study complex requirements both within and across systems in the cloud.
• Must be US Permanent Resident or US Citizen and clearable according to the standards of the Department of Commerce and US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Public Trust clearance process.
