Colour Assistant

Position Summary:

Provide assistance and operational support to Company 3 Colourists so they can perform creatively and productively during sessions. Overall reports to Operations Manager. Day to day reporting into the production team to ensure that session work is completed to schedule. Duties include session preparation, assisting Colourists, running some sessions standalone and creation and QC of all deliverables.

 Main Duties:

• Preparing colour sessions for colourists.
• Timeline preparation and updates using Resolve and Baselight.
• Preparing theatres or rooms for colourists to include routing, monitoring, projection, playback.
• Set up and monitor virtual sessions.
• Responsible for creating all master downstream deliverables for all theatrical, home video, and streamer content across multiple platforms and formats.
• Run client supervised sessions, screenings, visual effects reviews and colour-correction sessions as directed by colourist and/or production.
• Quality Control: Maintain highest possible levels of oversight of deliverables manufactured within the feature and longform finishing process.
• Collaborate and communicate with fellow colleagues to ensure project deadlines are met, keeping shared documents accurate and up to date at all times.
• Support new processes and maintain proficiency with evolving technical applications and trends with the company workflow.
• Help support and train junior members of the team.
• Maintain best practices for content security and client confidentiality.

Skills:

• Experience of using Resolve or Baselight.
• Knowledge of the various of colour spaces, LUT applications and skills for colour tracing, match grading and rendering.
• Knowledge of Aspect ratios and frame sizes, from origination to master delivery.
• Understanding of deliverables from theatrical deliverable formats to streamers and broadcasters.
• Understanding of audio formats and deliveries and laying back of audio to create final deliverables.
• Understanding of editing systems, VFX applications and data centric practices.
• Detail oriented problem solver, capable of working well under pressure in a deadline driven, environment.
• Ability to interpret and demonstrate a solid understanding of creative editorial instructions and the latest workflow trends with filmmaking.
• Flexible to work around client needs and delivery schedules.
• Strong interpersonal skills to help create a unique and relaxed environment for a creative client base.
• Friendly and approachable manner.
• Commitment to continuous improvement with an innovative approach to work and problems.

What You Bring:

• Experience within postproduction industry.
• Hands-on operator experience.
• Work well under pressure in a deadline driven environment.
• Flexible with shift hours.
• Experience with Davinci Resolve and/or Baselight essential. Familiarity Colorfront/Transkoder/Avid beneficial.
• Understanding of grade 1 monitors and digital cinema projectors.
