POSITION OVERVIEW We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the financial operations for our high-volume, fast-paced food business, which includes multiple café locations, online ordering, full-service catering, and delivery services. This critical leadership role is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring financial integrity, and providing strategic insights to support business growth. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, a deep understanding of GAAP and financial regulations, and thrives in a dynamic, multi-unit environment. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Accounting Operations • Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance. Ensure accounts payable and accounts receivable are within agreed terms and manage cash flow accordingly. • Lead the month-end and year-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting. • Support the payroll process and monitor payroll-related deadlines and compliance. • Complete and review monthly bank reconciliations. • Record monthly accruals and maintain schedules for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and other key balance sheet items. • Ensure clear documentation of accounting policies and procedures. Internal Controls • Establish, implement, and monitor robust internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial accuracy. Audit & Compliance • Serve as the primary liaison for external audits and coordinate the audit process. • Ensure ongoing compliance with GAAP, tax laws, and regulatory requirements. Budgeting & Forecasting • Work with CFO and Director of Finance to help manage the company’s annual budget and rolling forecasts • Oversee cashflow forecast • Prepare financial models in collaboration with the Director of Finance and CFO and provide variance analysis to support informed decision-making. Financial Analysis & Reporting • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. • Analyze financial performance, identify trends and variances, and provide recommendations for operational improvements. • Present financial insights and reporting to executive leadership. Tax • Prepare schedules and documentation for the company’s external CPA firm for annual tax filings. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements. • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) - Microsoft Business Central • Collaborate with departments to optimize ERP accounting/finance utilization for improved reporting and process efficiency. Team Leadership • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team including the Accounting Manager and outsourced AP/AR team • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing finance team. • Partner cross-functionally with department leaders across café, catering, and delivery operations. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA required. • Minimum 10 years of accounting/finance experience, with 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. • Expertise in GAAP and regulatory compliance. • Proven experience in a multi-unit or food service environment is highly desirable. • Strong proficiency in financial software and ERP systems. Microsoft Dynamics Business Central ERP experience a plus. • Advanced Excel skills. • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. • Effective organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative approach to working across departments.
