What we are looking for: We’re seeking a Controller to lead the finance team at our growing commercial construction company. With continued success in both in-state and out-of-state markets and exciting expansion ahead, we need a hands-on leader who can help guide our future. As Controller, you’ll oversee financial reporting, cash flow, forecasting, budgeting, internal controls, and compliance—critical responsibilities that will keep our foundation strong and position us for long-term success. Leveraging your expertise with construction accounting software such as Sage 300 CRE or Sage Intacct, you’ll streamline processes, improve efficiency, and drive financial performance. Key Responsibilities: Financial Reporting & Compliance • Lead A/R, A/P, cost accounting, and project reporting functions • Oversee all daily accounting activities, including general ledger, job cost accounting, payroll, and fixed assets • Deliver timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in accordance with GAAP • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and clear accounting SOPs Cash Management • Manage cash flow, funding requirements, and day-to-day financial operations • Oversee vendor payments and customer collections • Reconcile banking activities and ensure accurate reporting of daily transactions Financial Planning • Build and maintain dashboards and flash reports to drive decision-making • Continuously improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting processes • Provide timely forecasts and project scoreboards to measure results • Prepare budgets, forecasts, cash projections, and variance analyses • Partner with project managers to track job performance and strengthen cost reporting Team Leadership & Culture • Communicate financial insights effectively across all levels of the company • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team with a focus on delegation and growth • Serve as an essential team player who fosters collaboration and embraces growth • Lead with integrity, credibility, and a strong commitment to our company values and family-like culture What You’ll Bring • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field • 6–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role • Prior experience in the commercial construction industry preferred • Strong knowledge of GAAP, job costing, and revenue recognition for progressive work charges • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills • A proven track record as a collaborative team player who values diversity, inclusion, and a people-first culture What You’ll Get • The opportunity to be a key leader shaping the financial future of a growing construction company • A collaborative, family-like culture grounded in teamwork, trust, and integrity • The chance to make a meaningful impact—building strong financial systems while supporting the people who make them work • Competitive compensation along with medical, dental, and vision insurance • Generous paid time off and support for your ongoing professional growth • A workplace that values diversity, inclusion, and the unique strengths you bring • $95,000 - $115,000 annual salary If you’re a finance professional who wants to make a meaningful impact, not just in processes and reporting, but with our team and the future of a growth-oriented company, we look forward to hearing from you. Responsibilities • Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting. • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and SOX regulations in all financial reporting and practices. • Prepare and present accurate financial reports to management and stakeholders, including balance sheet reconciliations and regulatory reporting. • Manage cash flow and cash management processes to ensure the organization’s liquidity. • Conduct thorough financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and account reconciliation to support strategic planning. • Maintain accounting software systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero for efficient financial management. • Lead the preparation of technical accounting documentation and ensure adherence to financial concepts and principles. • Collaborate with external auditors during audits and manage public accounting relationships as necessary. • Provide guidance on financial concepts to other departments to enhance overall financial literacy within the organization. Experience • Proven experience as a Controller or in a similar role within non-profit or governmental accounting environments is preferred. • Strong knowledge of public accounting practices along with expertise in cash management and financial report writing. • Familiarity with double entry bookkeeping principles and general ledger reconciliation processes is essential. • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, account analysis, and financial software tools is required. • Excellent analytical skills with a solid understanding of debits & credits and technical accounting standards. • Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining high levels of professionalism and integrity in all interactions.
