Controller / In-House Accountant – Hospitality Industry (On-Site)
Location:Marlton, NJ
Schedule:Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM
Work Type:On-Site Only (No Remote Option)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Controller / In-House Accountant to oversee the accounting operations for a growing portfolio of hotels. The ideal candidate is a CPA (or active CPA candidate) with strong hospitality accounting experience who can manage property-level and corporate financial reporting, ensure compliance, and lead a small accounting team.
This is a full-time, on-site position offering an opportunity to take ownership of the accounting function within a dynamic and expanding hospitality group.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Oversight & Reporting
• Prepare and review monthly hotel and corporate financial statements.
• Analyze property performance and investigate discrepancies.
• Ensure reporting accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
• Review financial results before submitting to lenders or ownership.
• Manage and reconcile intercompany accounts.
Treasury & Banking
• Monitor all cash, money market, and CD accounts for accuracy and yield.
• Coordinate renewals and term reviews prior to expiration.
• Track capital disbursements and escrow activity for projects and improvements.
Audit & Compliance
• Coordinate with external auditors for annual and special audits.
• Maintain internal controls and compliance documentation.
• Hold or obtain a New Jersey Notary Public commission to notarize company documents.
• Update accounting policies and procedures as needed.
Vendor & Project Accounting
• Track payments to contractors and vendors for property improvements.
• Maintain vendor ledgers and issue updated statements after payments.
• Collect lien waivers and maintain supporting documentation for escrow or capital disbursements.
Leadership & Team Oversight
• Supervise accounting staff in accounts payable and receivable.
• Collaborate with operations and property teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Streamline accounting workflows for efficiency and accuracy.
• Act as the primary point of contact for financial institutions and partners.
Additional Key Responsibilities
• Prepare the annual budget.
• Conduct quarterly performance reporting for investors, lenders, and franchisors.
• Serve as the point of contact for current partners and fulfill requests as needed.
• Prepare year-end financial statements and work closely with the CPA to file annual tax returns.
• File monthly local and state taxes with the appropriate authorities.
• Assist with the new acquisition underwriting process.
• Participate in the new acquisition process and handle lease-related tasks post-closing to complete post-proration.
• Ensure the books remain balanced throughout the year.
• Ensure all income statements are ready for the operations team to review by the deadline.
• Oversee the sale of any existing hotels in the portfolio.
• Prepare and provide due diligence materials to brokers as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
• CPA certification strongly preferred (or active CPA candidate).
• 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in the hospitality or hotel industry.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP and multi-entity accounting.
• Proficiency with Excel and accounting systems (M3, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar).
• Excellent attention to detail, communication, and analytical skills.
• Must be able to work on-site, Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM.
Preferred Experience
• Hotel-specific accounting or franchise reporting.
• Experience with capital projects and escrow draw management.
• Audit coordination and lender reporting.
• Supervising accounting staff in a hospitality environment.
