Position Summary: Pacific Coast Commercial is seeking a Controller to oversee all accounting functions for the company and its property management division, which handles third-party owned real estate portfolios. This role will be critical in maintaining the financial health and operational efficiency of the company’s real estate assets. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, collaboration, and organizational skills while driving improvements in accounting operations and leading a team of accounting professionals. As the Controller, you will be responsible for preparing financial statements, managing accounting personnel, and offering strategic recommendations to improve processes and procedures. You’ll work closely with the Property Management team and the CFO to ensure smooth operations across multiple teams and clients. Please note: This is a fully in-office position. No remote work is available for this role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of corporate financial statements for Pacific Coast Commercial and all managed portfolios. • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the Accounting Manager, General Ledger Accountants, Accounts Payable team, Accounts Receivable team, CAM/Budget team, and Lease Administrator. • Process Improvement: Establish and maintain up-to-date departmental policies and procedures. Identify areas for improvement in accounting functions and implement new processes. • Staff Training: Train and lead accounting staff of 15, ensuring they have the necessary tools and skills to succeed in their roles. • Software Management: Maintain and manage access to the property management software system, ensuring it reflects current users and property information. • Collaboration: Regularly communicate with the Property Management team and VP of Management to ensure smooth collaboration on accounting and property management procedures. • Client Communication: Interact with clients and their CPAs regarding financial statements, cash flow projections, disbursement requests, and other property information. • Cash Flow Management: Monitor all property cash accounts, approve banking transactions, and track cash flow for Pacific Coast Commercial and the properties under management. • Payroll Oversight: Oversee payroll for employees across 3 separate pay groups and multiple states. • Sales Tax Filings: Ensure accurate sales tax filings for 6 different states on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Qualifications: • Education:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. • Certifications:CPA or MBA required. • Experience:7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior finance role. • Management Experience:Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop accounting teams. • Software Knowledge:Strong knowledge of property management/accounting software (preferably Rent Manager). • Payroll & HR Expertise:Knowledge of multi-state payroll processes and human resources laws, including tax compliance and wage laws, preferred. • Technical Skills:Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial reporting tools. • Communication:Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
