Controller - Residential & Commercial Builder / Developer Company Overview We are a dynamic residential and commercial builder/developer based in Houston and Austin, Texas, seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all financial operations of our parent company and subsidiaries. Position Summary The Controller will be responsible for managing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and establishing robust financial controls while building and managing an offshore accounting team. This role requires deep knowledge of construction accounting practices and strong leadership abilities. Key Responsibilities ● Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, and general ledger management ● Manage month-end and year-end closing processes ● Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports for management ● Lead project cost accounting, ensuring accurate allocation and tracking of costs across multiple development projects ● Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls ● Direct the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses ● Establish and manage an offshore accounting team, including recruitment, training, and performance management ● Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and industry regulations ● Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits ● Support leadership with financial insights for strategic decision-making Qualifications ● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred ● 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in construction/real estate development accounting ● Demonstrated experience in managing and developing accounting teams ● Experience in establishing or managing offshore teams ● Proficiency in construction accounting software and ERP systems ● Strong understanding of job costing, percentage of completion accounting, and construction billing practices ● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills ● Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities Salary Range $160,000-$210, 000 annual total compensation including benefits, depending on experience and qualifications.
