Tatum is partnering with our client, a rapidly growing company in the utility management sector, to find an agile and experienced Controller for an urgent contract-to-hire opportunity in the Greater Phoenix, AZ area. Our client is in a dynamic phase of expansion through mergers and acquisitions and is centralizing its finance and accounting functions. This role is critical to providing interim support through a current audit and building scalable processes for the future. You will be the key financial leader, working directly with the CFO and external auditors to ensure financial integrity and compliance. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technical and strategic Controller to systematize processes, lead a critical audit, and play a pivotal role in a major system migration. Position Details: • Type:Contract-to-Hire • Compensation:$65 - $84 per hour plus optional benefits offered (Health, Dental, Vision, etc.) for this W-2 role. • Location:Hybrid | 3 days per week in the office (Greater Phoenix Area, AZ) with flexibility on in-office days. • Start Date:Immediate location: Phoenix, Arizona job type: Contract salary: $65 - 84 per hour work hours: 8 to 5 education: Bachelor's degree experience: 0 Years responsibilities: • Lead the company through its current financial audit, serving as the primary point of contact for the external audit firm. • Establish and manage proper lead audit schedules and ensure full compliance. • Take charge of technical accounting issues, providing research, guidance, and implementation. • Perform and oversee hands-on accounting operations, including approving journal entries and reviewing complex reconciliations. • Develop and implement financial checklists and systematize accounting processes to support scalable growth. • Review and approve Contractor AIA payment applications and associated lien waivers for large-scale projects. • Assist in the upcoming accounting system transition from QuickBooks to Sage, planned for around November. qualifications: • Proven experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager in a fast-paced environment. • Strong technical accounting skills and a thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP. • Demonstrable experience leading financial audits and engaging directly with external auditors. • A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically. • Experience with construction or project-based accounting, including AIA billings and lien waivers, is highly desirable. • Proficiency with accounting software; experience with QuickBooks is required, and experience with Sage is highly beneficial. • A CPA is a strong plus.
