About the Opportunity A well-established residential property management company is seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to join our executive finance team. This is a confidential search for a key leadership position that will play a critical role in our continued growth and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in real estate finance, residential property accounting, and team leadership. Position Overview The Corporate Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions across our diverse portfolio of residential properties. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position requires a strategic financial leader who can balance hands-on technical expertise with high-level financial planning and analysis. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of our financial reporting while driving process improvements and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & StrategyLead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting across all entities. Develop and maintain comprehensive internal controls and accounting policies that comply with GAAP and industry best practices. Partner with the executive team to provide financial insights that drive strategic business decisions and support portfolio growth initiatives. Property Portfolio ManagementOversee financial operations for our residential property portfolio, including multifamily, single-family, and related supporting operations. Analyze property performance metrics and provide actionable recommendations to optimize NOI across the portfolio. Team Development & Cross-Functional CollaborationLead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. Collaborate with property management teams to streamline financial processes and enhance operational efficiency. Work closely with asset management, acquisitions, and development teams on financial due diligence and integration of new properties. Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners. Financial Systems & Process OptimizationChampion the implementation and optimization of property management and accounting software systems. Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting processes. Develop and maintain robust financial dashboards and KPI reporting for executive and board-level presentations. Required Qualifications Education & CredentialsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required. An MBA or Master's in Accounting/Finance is advantageous but not required. CPA certification is not required, but it is desirable. Professional ExperienceMinimum of 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior accounting or controller role. Demonstrated experience in the real estate industry, preferably within residential property management, multifamily, or REIT environments. Proven track record of managing multi-entity consolidations and complex ownership structures. Experience with property management software systems such as Yardi, RealPage, AppFolio, Entrata, ResMan, or similar platforms. Technical CompetenciesExpert knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles. Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, with experience in data visualization tools preferred. Strong understanding of internal controls, and financial audit processes. Experience with ERP implementations and system integrations is highly desirable. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing accounting for residential portfolios exceeding 5,000 units or $500 million in asset value. Background in multifamily property management accounting. Experience with acquisitions, dispositions, and development accounting for residential properties. Knowledge of HUD compliance, affordable housing programs, and tax credit requirements. Compensation & Benefits We offer a highly competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including a base salary range of $90,000 - $120,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
