Position:Corporate Tax Accountant Reporting to:Director of Accounting Role Overview: As Expansive scales, it is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Tax Accountant to join our finance & accounting team. This role will take ownership of all corporate tax matters, including the preparation and publishing of tax returns and K-1s, multi-state tax compliance, and assisting with general accounting functions as needed. The Corporate Tax Accountant will be responsible for managing the company’s tax compliance and reporting requirements, working closely with the Director of Accounting and Chief Financial Officer. This role offers the opportunity to shape the company’s tax strategy, streamline processes, and ensure full compliance across jurisdictions. Responsibilities: Tax Compliance & Reporting • Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns for property and corporate entities. • Oversee timely preparation and distribution of K-1s to investors and partners. • Maintain compliance with all multi-state income and franchise tax requirements, including entity-related taxes as well as payroll / employer / employee-related state and local taxes. • Manage quarterly estimated tax payments and extensions. Tax Planning & Strategy • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess impact on company and associated partnerships. • Identify tax planning opportunities to optimize corporate structure and tax liabilities. Corporate and Investor Accounting Support • Assist with annual audits and financial reporting as it relates to income taxes. • Assist with special projects, including entity formation/dissolution/maintenance • Respond as needed to investor inquiries; “own” investor database • Lead investor accounting, including processing and recording investor distributions • Yardi Administration Compliance & Process Improvement • Develop and maintain internal documentation and calendars to manage all tax-related deadlines. • Implement process improvements and systems to streamline tax workflows. • Respond to tax notices, audits, or correspondence from taxing authorities. Attributes and Qualifications: • Willingness to learn and desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment • Ideal candidate would have tax experience at a Big 4 or regional accounting firm but is looking to move in-house at an operating platform • Real estate experience strongly preferred • Strong knowledge of partnership and corporate taxation, including experience with K-1s. • Experience working with multi-state filings and compliance. • Experience in the real estate industry or with real estate partnership structures. • Familiarity with Yardi. • Comfortable in a lean, entrepreneurial environment where collaboration is key. • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines. • Ability to work cross-functionally and asynchronously with remote and in-person teams. • Excellent organizational skills and discipline to stay focused. Location: • Chicago, IL Education: CPA or MST (Master of Taxation) preferred.
