Cost Accountant

Gowan Company is searching for a Cost Accountant. He/she will be responsible for the cost accounting process and budget of all products and inventory for a global manufacturer of agricultural chemicals using standard cost system. Additionally, may perform some general accounting functions, as directed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Reviews that all the Standard Cost elements have been logically determined, including bill of materials, production  routings, labor and overhead

· Coordinates with supply chain team to ensure that standard costs are correctly reflected in bills of materials

· Coordinates with each manufacturing team to ensure that all the manufacturing operations are correctly reflected product routes

· Coordinates with each team supporting manufacturing operations to ensure that all the overhead expenses are correctly reflected into the indirect cost

· Coordinates with each manufacturing team to ensure that all the direct labor costs are correctly reflected into the standard cost

· Based on the records obtained, determines the Standard Cost for all manufactured products

· Assists in new product planning by forecasting costs (variable, assembly, indirect,) and analyzing costs of various options.

· Assists in annual cost r oll, conducted at fiscal year-end, assure that inventory valuation is properly booked in the system.

· Assist in managing/performing cost segregation and fixed asset studies/Evaluations.

· Coordinates physical inventory counts and cycle counts of inventory

· Validates and monitors standard costs on monthly basis, and investigate discrepancies between standard and actual costs and execute any adjustment if needed

· Determine standard/actual cost variances on monthly basis (purchase & manufacturing), ensures that accumulated purchase price variances are applied to sales in the P&L

· Monitors slow-moving inventory, and evaluates for impairment or obsolescence

· Prepares accurate and timely Cost Accounting and Inventory reporting analysis to managers and other end users

· Perform account reconciliations to maintain integrity of general ledger in Cost & Inventory related accounts

· Prepares financial information and schedules to external auditors during annual financial audit

· Assist with technical support and advice on Operational Departments

· Assist with preparation of the Budget Standard Cost

· Maintain internal cost accounting controls (Policies & Procedures)

· Participate in any duty related with the Finance department required by the company

Required Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

· Master’s degree (Accountancy or MBA) and/or CPA preferred

Required Skills and Experience

· Proven experience in Manufacturing Cost Accounting (Standard Cost preferred).

· Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP, IFRS).

· Experienced with Microsoft Office programs, especially Microsoft Excel.

· Familiar with electronic accounting systems, preferably JD Edwards Enterprise One.

· Accuracy and attention to detail

· Self-motivated, flexible, team player

· Tenacity and willingness to investigate and resolve discrepancies

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

· Work in an office environment at a computer for extended periods of time.

· Light filing and Occasional travel.

· Occasional light lift objects may be required.

· Occasional overtime may be required.
