Cost Accountant

Salary:$75k - 80k per year + Medical. Dental. Vision Reference:397428 TheCost Accountantis responsible for planning, analyzing, and reporting cost-related data to support business operations, financial decision-making, and strategic planning. This role focuses on cost control, product costing, inventory valuation, and financial analysis, particularly within manufacturing or production environments. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and experience working with ERP systems and manufacturing data. Key Responsibilities: • Develop and maintain accurate cost accounting systems and processes. • Analyze standard and actual production costs and prepare reports on production and cost variances. • Monitor and analyze inventory valuation, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. • Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs), labor routings, and overhead allocations. • Prepare monthly reports on margins, manufacturing costs, and cost of goods sold (COGS). • Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes by ensuring all cost-related entries are accurate. • Reconcile inventory and cost accounts to the general ledger. • Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities by providing cost estimates and variance analysis. • Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle counts, and investigate any discrepancies. • Provide cost analysis and recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency. • Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary schedules and documentation. • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and accounting standards. Qualifications: Education: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification preferred. Experience: • 2–5 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment. • Familiarity with standard costing, job costing, and activity-based costing methodologies. Skills: • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics). • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. • Effective verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
