Criminal Intelligence Analysts (Crime Analysts) perform tactical, strategic, operational, and administrative crime analysis within the Police Department's Crime Analysis and Research Unit. They work closely with the officer analysts assigned to the unit. Responsibilities include and are not limited to: • Responding to requests for information from a variety of types of customers. • Conducting statistical analyses. • Detecting crime series/patterns. • Forecasting crime trends. • Identifying suspect/crime relationships. • Developing investigative leads. • Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial analysis of crime trends. • Preparing comprehensive written reports and delivering oral presentations on research findings. • Providing training on crime analysis and crime mapping processes. • Providing guidance to other individuals such as interns and volunteers who help in the unit. • Some crime analyst positions in the unit supervise police statistical research aide positions. IDEAL CANDIDATE • Knowledge of structured query language (SQL) programming a plus. • Familiar with: • General crime analysis principles and practices. • Research methodology and statistical analysis techniques. • Working with law enforcement records management system (RMS) and/or computer-aided dispatch (CAD) data. • Crime classification criteria such as Uniform Crime Reporting Summary Reporting System (SRS), Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS), National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), etc. SALARY Pay Range: $63,044 to $93,122 annually. Hiring Range: $63,044 to $80,454 annually. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience with/as: • Researching and analyzing data relating to crime series and patterns and forecasting crime trends. • Evaluating patrol workload and staffing. • Using Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook. • Using ESRI ArcGIS or other GIS mapping software. • Data mining, researching, and analyzing data in various formats and database environments. • Using Crystal Reports and/or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) software. • Researching social media sites and other open-source information to assist with developing investigative leads. • Cell phone mapping, event timelines, and link analysis. • Supervising or leading within a team environment. • Teaching or presenting to a variety of types of audiences. • Analyzing work processes, documenting procedures, and identifying opportunities for increased efficiencies.
