WECA is a nonprofit organization serving merit shop electrical contractors, their employees and the industry suppliers that support them. In California, WECA offers federal and state-approved Commercial, Residential, and Low Voltage (Voice Data Video and Fire Life Safety) Electrical Apprenticeship programs, a state-approved Electrician Trainee program, certification exam preparation classes, and state-approved continuing education classes for journeyperson electricians and low voltage technicians. In Arizona, WECA offers a federal and state-approved Commercial Electrical Apprenticeship program and continuing education classes for Journeyperson electricians. In Utah, WECA offers a federal and state-approved Commercial Electrical Apprenticeship program. WECA additionally shares its expertise by producing curriculum products and publications for the industry. Job Summary:This role works on curriculum development, updates, maintenance, and continuing improvement for WECA’s Electrician Trainee and Continuing Education programs, including the GetWired! online training program for Electrician Trainees. Acts as subject matter expert in electrical construction standards and practices. Under the guidance of Curriculum Development and Get Wired Training Manager: Works with curriculum development team members, instructors, and other subject matter experts to develop online self-paced, instructor-led online, and classroom/lab-based learning experiences. Regular responsibility for updating curriculum across multiple product and service lines to remain current with relevant codes and standards and meet regular product life cycle deadlines. Utilizes instructional design and adult learning theory. Formulates learning objectives, recommends and selects appropriate methods and media, develops presentation content, develops learning assessments, and continuously evaluates training effectiveness in close consultation with team. Transforms technical content into logically sequenced, interactive, and engaging learning activities. Participates in the testing, evaluation, and implementation of cutting-edge learning technologies including online interactive simulation development, AI for learning, and extended reality (XR, AR, VR). Contributes expertise to new education product development launches and internal product training. Participates with the curriculum, instructional, and online training delivery teams on related projects as assigned. This position is remote work-eligible, with expectation of occasional onsite presence as needed. Candidates can also choose an onsite or hybrid arrangement if they prefer, based out of any of WECA's California training facilities (Rancho Cordova/Sacramento Region, Fresno, Riverside, or San Diego). Essential Functions: 1.Serve as Curriculum Developer on assigned curriculum projects including original curriculum/educational product development, updates, maintenance, and continuing improvement for WECA’s Electrician Trainee and Continuing Education programs, including the GetWired! online training program for Electrician Trainees. 2.Work with experienced instructors and other subject matter experts to develop online self-paced, online instructor-led, and classroom/lab-based courses for the electrical and low voltage industries 3.Participate in project management and version-tracking best practices 4.Utilize instructional design and adult learning theory to design courses, including formulation of learning objectives, selection/recommendation of appropriate methods and media, and development of course content and learning assessments. 5.Capture technical content and transform it into logically sequenced, interactive, and engaging learning activities. 6.Demonstrate experience, expertise, and the ability to effectively train in Commercial and/or Residential electrical systems; this experience may be any combination of direct teaching/training experience and curriculum development experience 7.Develop measurable learning objectives, tests and assessments, activities, and continuously evaluate the training effectiveness of learning and curriculum products. 8.Regular responsibility for updating curriculum across multiple product and service lines to remain current with relevant codes and standards and meet regular product life cycle deadlines. 9.Assist with Quality Control and regular checks of online course content 10.Participate as backup support in update and rollout of curriculum materials in the Learning Management System and other locations. 11.Assist with internal training of instructional team on various aspects of curriculum delivery; participate as backup technical support for instructors on curriculum content access issues 12.Support membership and ET/CE sales initiatives, including giving online demos of training content, and other related duties 13.Participate in regularly scheduled GET WIRED! team meetings, suggest improvements, and apply decisions made during the meetings to your work. 14.Undertake occasional travel to designated WECA training facilities for meetings and other purposes related to curriculum and lab development and piloting 15.Participate in online Train the Trainer events 16.Follow Curriculum Correction Request processes for submission and resolution of corrections. 17.Communicate with instructors in a manner that is clear, encouraging and supportive in tone. 18.Provide various related services and functions in support of WECA’s Continuing Education and Electrician Trainee Programs as needed and as assigned Knowledge, Skill and Experience (Required): The Curriculum Specialist for Electrician Trainee and Continuing Education Programs will bring a combination of formal training and employment in the electrical construction and educational fields to include: 1.Working knowledge of the National Electric Code, and of pertinent City and State inspection requirements 2.A thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in installing and repairing electrical wiring systems; controls and electrical machinery and equipment in buildings; programmable logic controllers; AC/DC electronics; electricity mathematics; electrical theory; and related concepts and applications. 3.Successfully pass the California State Certification Exam, or the ability to attain within the next six (6) months: General Electrical 4.Five (5) years of verifiable work experience within the electrical construction industry; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered 5.Professional experience with curriculum development for the electrical industry and/or substantial teaching experience in electrical Code, theory, and practical applications. 6.Willingness to undergo additional training and certifications, as applicable, in Instructional Design and Electrical construction standards and practices 7.General office and record-keeping skills 8.Computer and web literacy and demonstrated skills using such software platforms as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT 9.Demonstrates a willingness to navigate, use, and learn education-related technology, such as Articulate 360 suite and WECA’s Learning Management System 10.Demonstrates a willingness to participate in the evaluation and implementation of advanced learning technologies (e.g., online interactive simulations, extended reality, AI for learning) 11.Experience providing effective instruction, in-person, over webinar, and indirectly through self-paced curriculum 12.Post-secondary diploma, degree, industry certification, or equivalent in related field required 13.Knowledge of common office equipment operation (copiers, etc.) 14.Friendly, professional and helpful attitude 15.Self-motivated Team Player 16.Ability to set a professional and positive image for the Association Knowledge, Skill and Experience (Not required, but nice to have): 1.May additionally be subject matter expert in low voltage (VDV or FLS) construction standards or practices. 2.Comfortable on camera and willingness to appear in training and promotional videos for WECA education programs.
