About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and values-driven Custodial Trainer to lead and elevate custodial staff through high-quality instruction, mentorship, and technical expertise. Key Responsibilities
Training & Instruction
• Design and deliver engaging, inclusive training on custodial techniques, safety, and equipment use.
• Tailor training approaches adult learners with varied skill levels, language backgrounds, or physical abilities.
• Use visual, hands-on, and verbal methods to maximize learning across diverse teams.
• Evaluate trainee performance and provide clear, encouraging feedback.
Technical Knowledge
• Teach custodial best practices, including sanitation protocols and industry regulations.
• Instruct on proper use and maintenance of custodial equipment (e.g., vacuums, buffers, scrubbers).
• Provide guidance on chemical safety, infection control, and biohazard cleanup procedures.
• Reinforce waste management, recycling, and environmental safety.
Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all training aligns with OSHA standards and regulatory compliance (SDS, PPE, emergency protocols).
• Emphasize injury prevention and safe chemical handling.
• Conduct refresher courses and stay updated with evolving compliance requirements.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
• Communicate clearly and respectfully across all training sessions and team interactions.
• Actively listen to employee questions or concerns and respond thoughtfully.
• Foster a culturally respectful and inclusive environment.
• Inspire custodial teams to take pride in their role and contributions.
Leadership & Coaching
• Serve as a positive role model for professionalism, work ethic, and teamwork.
• Mentor and support new hires and developing staff.
• Address team conflicts constructively and collaboratively.
• Support supervisors with performance insights and skill development.
Organization & Time Management
• Plan training schedules to cover various shifts, teams, and locations.
• Keep accurate records of training completion, certifications, and evaluations.
• Provide consistent follow-up and refresher training where needed.
Technology & Tools
• Utilize digital tools for training (e-learning platforms, instructional videos, apps).
• Maintain training records using spreadsheets or internal systems.
• Understand and instruct on CMMS or work order systems used in custodial operations.
Customer Service Orientation
• Train custodial staff to uphold cleanliness and service standards that reflect positively on the client or facility.
• Reinforce professional conduct in all guest or client-facing environments.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
• Track training effectiveness and make data-informed improvements.
• Gather feedback from trainees, supervisors, and clients to evolve programs.
• Stay current on industry trends, new tools, and training certifications.
What You Bring
• 3+ years of custodial experience, including 1+ year in a trainer, lead, or supervisory role
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience teaching or coaching adult learners
• Familiarity with safety regulations, equipment uses, and modern cleaning practices
• Organized, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement
• Multilingual skills (e.g., Spanish, Somali, Hmong) a plus
