JOB Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Custodial Crew Manager, works independently or as a team member to provide general cleaning and custodial care and support for assigned campus buildings, facilities, structures and adjacent areas and/or portions thereof, including, but not limited to, campus offices, classrooms, science laboratories, art rooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums, locker rooms, health and child care centers, student residences, patios, entryways, walkways, and workshops. Custodial staff may work independently or as part of a custodial team.Key ResponsibilitiesClean and maintain assigned areas, including such activities as dusting and cleaning all surfacesRemoving and properly disposing of trash ensuring diversion from the waste stream for all recyclable materialsCleaning and disinfecting restrooms, locker rooms, showers, and other similar areasReplenishing custodial supplies used by others including soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and similar items.Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of custodial supply closets and equipment areas as assigned to the position or crewCleaning glass doors, windows, and blindsRemoving graffiti Making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and furniture, such as oiling doors, tightening screws, and replacing foots on chairs and table Unlocks and secures custodial storage, equipment and supply rooms to access equipment, materials and suppliesClean and maintain floors of all types, including sweeping, dry and/or wet mopping, stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing, vacuuming, spot and full cleaning of carpets or other flooringKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to develop and apply knowledge pertaining to the methods, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures required to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary University environmentAbility to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful mannerAbility to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the positionAbility to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safetyAbility to recognize and accommodate changing priorities, meet deadlines/goals, and complete routine tasks despite intermittent interruptionsAbility to perform work involving regular physical activityAbility to move up to 50 poundsPossession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required at time of hire if the position is assigned to operate any vehicle required for this positionRequired QualificationsAbility to communicate verbally at a level appropriate to the duties of the positionAbility to follow simple oral and written directionsAbility to understand chemical/product mixing ratios and ability to label containers accordinglyRequires the possession of a valid California Driver's License for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required for position and in any emergency situation.
