Custodian Maintenance

Hours: 2:30pm-6:00 pm, M-F (Part-Time) Custodian Responsibilities The Custodian is expected to: • Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, cafeteria/lunchroom, and other school areas daily. • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment. • Empty trash cans, recycling bins, and ensure proper disposal. • Clean mirrors, windows, and other glass surfaces inside and outside as needed. • Restock restroom and classroom supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc.). • Disinfect high-touch surfaces (doorknobs, desks, handrails, light switches) to prevent the spread of germs. • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and effectively. • Perform minor repairs (e.g., replace light bulbs, unclog drains, tighten loose fixtures). • Report major maintenance or repair needs promptly. • Assist with setup and takedown for school events, assemblies, and activities, as well as takedown of furniture in a school cafeteria on Friday afternoons. • Monitor heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; report any malfunctions. • Clean and maintain school grounds and play areas, including sweeping sidewalks, picking up litter, and performing light landscaping. • Ensure walkways, entrances, and parking areas are safe, free of debris, and clear during inclement weather. • Report any safety hazards or concerns immediately. • Store cleaning supplies and equipment properly and securely. • Comply with all licensing regulations and school policies regarding cleaning steps, safety, and sanitation procedures. • Respond to requests from staff and administration in a timely, courteous, and professional manner. • Observes facility usage to identify recurring cleaning challenges or inefficiencies; recommends practical solutions to staff and management to improve processes, conserve supplies, and ensure long-term cleanliness. • Support a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Qualifications: Education and experience: • Required: High school diploma or equivalent. • Required: 1-2 years of professional custodial or cleaning experiencein a school, hospital, or similar large-scale facility. • Preferred:Prior experience working in a school environment and interacting with students and staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, materials, and the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment • Ability to follow oral and written directions • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods • Basic understanding of building maintenance and minor repairs • Ability to work as part of a team and independently • Proactive and solution-oriented, demonstrating strong observational skills and critical thinking to identify root causes of maintenance issues or inefficiencies. • Ability to take initiative to develop practical solutions • Ability to clearly and respectfully articulate observations and suggest solutions to supervisors and other school staff • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance or equipment as needed. • May work evenings or weekends for special events or meetings Job Type: Part-time Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 17.5 per week Benefits: • 401(k) Education: • High school or equivalent (Required) Experience: • School Custodian: 2 years (Required) • Custodial : 2 years (Required) Language: • English (Preferred) Work Location: In person
