Job Description
TheData Scientistis a technically skilled and data-driven professional who supports Combined Arms’ mission through advanced analytics, automation, and AI solutions. This position builds and manages systems that power organizational insights, operational excellence, and data-informed decision-making. The successful candidate will be passionate about transforming raw data into meaningful intelligence that helps strengthen our programs, partnerships, and outcomes for the veteran and military community.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Engineering
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures to support analytics, AI, and data migration initiatives.
• Manage and execute data migrations and integrations across multiple systems while ensuring quality, consistency, and minimal downtime.
• Build data lakes and data warehouses to centralize and optimize access to analytics-ready data.
• Optimize PostgreSQL databases with a focus on data modeling, performance tuning, and reliability.
• Work with AWS technologies (Lambda, DynamoDB, S3) to develop scalable, serverless data and automation solutions.
• Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity across internal and external systems.
Analytics & AI Development
• Design and implement AI and machine learning models to automate classification, predictions, and insights for workforce and operational analytics.
• Develop natural language and parsing systems to improve data categorization and reporting efficiency.
• Partner with HR/DA, program, and technology teams to enable data-backed insights into veteran engagement, service utilization, and impact measurement.
• Support the development of dashboards and visualizations that communicate key metrics to stakeholders and leadership.
Governance & Security
• Implement and enforce data governance, quality assurance, and compliance frameworks across organizational data systems.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and internal privacy and data security standards.
• Contribute to the long-term data strategy roadmap, shaping architecture, governance, and the organization’s AI adoption plan.
• Establish best practices for documentation, reproducibility, and model transparency.
Qualifications
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in data science, data engineering, or analytics.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in data science, computer science, information systems, or a related field.
Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
• Strong proficiency inPythonfor data manipulation, automation, and analytics.
• Experience withAWStechnologies including Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3.
• Solid understanding ofPostgreSQLand relational database design best practices.
• Experience with data migration, mapping, and parsing across multiple data sources.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and departments.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
• 3–7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data science, or analytics roles.
• Experience working withSnowflakeor other modern cloud-based data warehouse platforms.
• Familiarity withNode.jsfor API-driven or serverless applications.
• Experience withHR/DA or workforce analyticsand people data.
• Knowledge ofdata visualization platforms(e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and API integrations.
• Familiarity withETL/ELT frameworksand orchestration tools.
• Experience withcloud-based AI and automation toolsfor predictive analytics or natural language processing.
• Strong grasp ofdata governance, security, and compliancestandards (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, or GDPR).
• Ability to communicate complex data concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborate on data-informed decisions.
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary:$95,000 - $120,000 (commensurate with experience and employment type)
