Position Summary:WebMD is looking for a motivated SQL Server Database Administrator to join the Database Operations team. Our primary environment is a VLDB, on-premises MS SQL Server, but some projects may utilize other database products, so a willingness to learn other technologies is highly valued. We are looking for an experienced SQL Server DBA that can install, configure, and maintain mostly virtualized SQL Servers. Other aspects of the job will include requirement gathering, problem solving, troubleshooting / performance tuning, deploying internal scripting packages and working with various teams to keep database operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities:
- Familiar with basic SQL Server maintenance routines, such as backups, index and statistic maintenance, performance monitoring, etc.
- Responsible for all aspects of database administration for SQL Server including implementation efforts for large and / or complex projects.
- Provide operational excellence as well as efforts for continuous improvement of database related processes and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring high levels of data availability and database performance.
- Tunes and optimizes SQL Statements, Instance Parameters, and Data Storage, including the identification of performance related issues
- Work in a complex environment with very large, highly secured datasets
- Responsible for quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data
- Work with multiple teams to deliver top quality solutions
- Work with PowerShell to prepare and deploy database updates (internally developed processes)
Qualifications: (must have)
- Minimum of 3 years of SQL Server database administration experience
- Thorough understanding of T-SQL
- Experience with some form of HA/DR (replication, mirroring, AG, log shipping, etc.)
- Experience with query tuning / performance tuning
- SQL Server 2016 - 2019 experience
- Experience with SQL backups and other maintenance tasks
- Comfortable working with PowerShell tool suite
- SQL Security knowledge
- A sense of ownership and a desire to make an impact
- Good interpersonal skills while working with other teams
- A willingness to create and update department relevant documentation
Desired: (nice to have)
- Experience in Merge Replication topology
- Experience writing and modifying PowerShell automation scripts (dbatools.io, SMO, etc.)
- Excellent query tuning skills
- Previous experience working with VLDB (multi-terabyte tables with billions of rows)
- SSIS experience
- Experience with VMware
- Experience with third party tools such as Grafana, SQLWatch, dbatools, sp_whoisactive, Ola scripts, etc.
