Our Consumer & Community Banking division serves our Chase customers through a range of financial services, including personal banking, credit cards, mortgages, auto financing, investment advice, small business loans and payment processing. Responsibilities:
As a Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the following across Connected Commerce Technology:
- Evaluate modern, cloud-based database technologies and determine best-fit databases for broader adoption as well as for niche/fit-for-purpose use cases.
- Create and maintain database technology selection guide that can serve as self-service tool for the architects and application developers.
- Partner with our Global technology teams to define and implement database design, deployment and support patterns, standards and procedures.
- Engineer application and/or use-case specific database designs, that are based on data loading, data usage patterns & requirements that meet or exceed functional and non-functional requirements & SLAs.
- Provide consultation for teams to review Data Models.
- Assist applications in resolving database specific errors/issues in lower environments
- Work with architects and application developers to design for resiliency, ensure database designs are tested for availability, recovery requirements (uptime, RTO and RPO)
- Participate in production and non-prod database code and data deployments. Actively participate in performance tests, and document or identify the bottlenecks, opportunities for optimization and capacity performance.
- Interact with analytics, incident management systems, as well as operations teams to identify usage patterns for predicting issues
- Own database hygiene for the portfolio of connected commerce databases - backups, Cluster Tuning, Tech refreshes and rebalances, Version upgrades, Proactive Health Checks with Vendor, etc.
- Monitor and provide telemetry for databases on availability, stability and performance - Query performance monitoring and tuning, Database blocking/response time, Read/Write Latencies, Node health(nodes down/recycling of nodes), Capacity Monitoring, etc.
- Provide Level 3 support for production applications, Triage/resolve Production database issues. Contribute to blameless post-mortems. Be part of the rotational support coverage as needed.
- Maintain database adherence to firms data management standards.
- Review critical topics on set cadence with stakeholders and partners (capacity issues, feature requests, stability)
- Drive adoption of automated systems, infrastructure, and software practices.
- Work with team to complete tasks to high quality and actively learns new skills
- Self-manage the effort split between operational work and engineering work
- Collaborates effectively with other team members
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of Experience with various database technologies - SQL/NoSQL/in-memory/HDFS/Columnar/GraphDB
- 7+ years of Experience in following relational and non-relational database technologies: Oracle, Cassandra, CockroachDB, MS SQLSVR, DB2
- 7+ years of experience as DBA or Database Engineer deploying OLTP applications on any of the above listed database technologies.
- 5+ years of experience deploying Cloud databases such as AWS RDS, AWS Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience on data modeling tools such as ERWIN
- 4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting
- 4+ years experience with Distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL)
- Experience in designing, executing and supporting database migrations projects from traditional on-premise data centers / private cloud to AWS public cloud.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to justify requirements, features and demonstrate business value
- Capable of managing service-level changes to a system or service, and troubleshooting system level components.
- Capable of working effectively within an Agile team. Experience working with cross-functional teams in delivery of new products or services
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong technical experience with designing data lakes, pipelines, and data models.
- Working knowledge of cloud based data warehouse technologies such as AWS RedShift, Snowflake cloud data warehouse.
- Proficient in at least one software language (e.g. Python, Java, Go, etc.) with respect to designing, coding, testing , and software delivery.
- Proficient knowledge of one or more infrastructure components. (E.g. networking, cloud services , orchestration tools, containerized systems , compute and storage systems)
- Production support with ITIL process.
