Job Description
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Enterprise Database Services organization at City National Bank is going through a transformation to scale and support a hybrid cloud database ecosystem. Sr. Database Administrator will be part of the Enterprise Database Services team and is responsible for the Database Engineering & Capacity Management function with a strong focus on IT Governance and Security. The Senior Database Administrator is a member of the Database Administrator team and is responsible for all functions associated with the physical implementation, operation, and maintenance of database environments. Plans, coordinates, administers, and maintains databases. Responsibilities include planning, documentation, operations, security, and contingency planning. Ensures database recovery, maintenance, and capacity for physical database are met through formulations and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. Analyzes, tests, evaluates, and implements physical database performance and capacity and tunes the system for efficient performance. Provides technical guidance and assistance in the development and implementation of database systems. Provides a high degree of coordination between colleagues, technical staff, and applications developers to ensure effective data management and meets business objectives.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Develop and maintain the architecture, engineering, deployment and support of SQL Server Database Engineering Support.
- Support Database Platform Engineering in the architecture, development and deployment of SQL Server Database in high SLA environments. This includes On Prem IAAS, Cloud IAAS, Azure SQL and Azure SQL MI.
- This includes, but is not limited to, advanced to expert engineering and implementation of the following:
- Manage, support, and maintain database technology and infrastructure, adhering to architectural guidelines and policies.
- Database administration for off the shelf and internally developed applications, ensure continuous 24x7 operation and availability in support of mission critical business applications and participating in on-call rotation.
- Install, configure, monitor, upgrade and maintain SQL Server databases in production and non-production environments.
- Support local/across the DC failover with High Availability Disaster Recovery environment with AlwaysOn availability group for SQL.
- Participate in Database Maintenance and DR activities.
- Write/maintain Powershell scripts for DB automation.
- Provide technical expertise and hands-on support in consolidation and migration of databases to new hardware and platforms.
- Physical implementation of databases, storage structures, high-availability solutions, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Proactive and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of escalated Level 2 and Level3 issues.
- Regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis, predictive future database resource requirements, and the structured organized reporting of the same.
- Work closely with other Infrastructure engineering, product development, business operations, and technical operations to ensure delivery of database services within the SLA's and performance targets.
- Participate in the evaluation, selection and implementation of DBA tools to improve the effectiveness of tasks like performance monitoring and tuning, recovery, and database change management processing.
- Works closely with information security to ensure all databases conform to TSS standards.
- Administers and controls activities related to database planning and operations. Establishes procedures and standards pertaining to data management, security, maintenance, utilization, and backup/recovery.
- Recommends and establishes standards, guidelines, and procedures for all aspects of physical database design and maintenance.
- Works closely with infrastructure team to help design infrastructure requirements for the databases to ensure high database resilience in production and recoverability in a DR environment.
- Designs, develops, maintains, and executes scripts. Monitors execution of the loads and resolves operational or other technical issues when necessary. Monitor system growth and perform resource and capacity planning for databases. Patches databases as per patching guidelines
- Work well as a team and as an individual with minimal supervision.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Must-Have*
- 7 years of relevant IT experience with a bachelor's degree or an Advanced Degree e.g., Masters
- 5 years of DB Engineering/Administration experience primarily with SQL Server On Prem and Azure.
- 7-10 years of DBA experience managing Microsoft SQL Server
- 4-5 years of experience managing complex bi-directional replication topology
- Should have good Troubleshooting and Performance Improving Skills including index creation, query optimization, schema changes etc.
- Good experience with Python/Ruby/PowerShell scripting and experience in configuration management tools like Ansible or Chef.
- Ability to modify and integrate Open-source database and related products and develop solutions to achieve required capabilities for Persistence/DB layer.
- Prior programming experience specially with Microservice architecture will be a plus
- Nice to have: Experience with CI/CD pipeline and code versioning tools such as Git
Certification, Skills and Knowledge
- Azure Professional certification is highly desired.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server fundamentals and Architecture.
Compensation
Starting base salary: $101,231 - $172,355 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
