Opti, a part of Aliaxis Next, is a leader in IoT cloud-based stormwater management, and is looking for a full-time Dev Ops Engineer to be a primary owner of company computing environments. Opti offers a hybrid work environment based upon trust and transparency. Office based activities are guided by our 'office with a purpose' principle that focuses our time in-person on resolving difficult questions so that we can move independently. The Dev Ops Engineer position is open to US residents able to commute to our Boston, MA headquarters at least 2 days/week. Overview

We believe the stormwater management challenges facing communities today require performance improvements, adaptive capacity, and operational transparency that digital approaches can deliver. Opti is the creator and leading provider of Continuous Monitoring and Adaptive Control (CMAC) products, which provide solutions to multiple, often competing, stormwater objectives. Since 2007, our management of releases has provided customers with economic savings, resiliency, and peace of mind.


We are looking for a Dev Ops Engineer who is able to independently execute projects to support our software development lifecycle, handle incident response for problems with our production and QA environments, and oversee week-to-week requirements and projects taken on by our IT Managed Service Provider to ensure laptop provisioning and maintenance for our company of fewer than 25 people continues to run smoothly. In your first year, you will work with the CTO and 3rd party contractors to conduct an SOC Type I and II audit across our organization, including the development and production environments we use to provide our products. Over time, you will play a central role in efforts to modernize our IT systems and improve our corporate security culture. Accomplishing this goal will support our ongoing security compliance initiatives, and help us continue to provide a trustworthy service for our customer communities and the people who live in them.

  • Product Technologies: Microsoft Azure, (Cloud Services, Static Web Apps, API Management, Front Door, Redis Cache, SQL Server, Storage, Service Bus, Event Hubs) Particle.io, Logz.io (ELK provider), DNSMadeEasy, Webflow, Github Actions Self-Hosted Runner.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, facilitate discussions with software teams and leadership, and implement projects that improve uptime, RTO, and RPO metrics of our production environments.
  • Execute disaster response procedures in response to escalated customer success cases and internal operational alarms. Participate in pager-duty responsibilities with the software development team.
  • Implement updates to our CI/CD platforms, and support our IoT Engineer’s project to port our hardware test infrastructure from a homegrown system to Github Actions Self-Hosted Runner.
  • Maintain and adapt our process for digitally onboarding and offboarding employees as required to make our current operating posture of resources auditable.
  • Co-author technology requirements documents on changes to IT policy along with the CTO and Data Privacy Coordinator.
  • Research options to support vendor selection for independent auditors of our information systems.
  • Implement changes required to comply with industry standards identified by our SOC Type I audit and support data collection as needed to complete our SOC Type II.Β 

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years managing computing environments for software developers and business and scientific analysts.
  • 2+ years experience with virtual machines on Microsoft Azure.
  • 2-year degree in systems administration or equivalent, or certification in Microsoft Cloud Platform and Infrastructure.

Preferred Candidate Skills

  • Experience writing and maintaining scripts in any shell scripting environment.
  • Experience with the Git source control versioning system and using the Github platform on a team.
  • Experience as a generalist infrastructure manager at a small technology product company.
  • Background in a scientific or engineering domain.
