DevOps Engineer (MySQL Database Admin)

Moda Operandi is seeking an Engineer with large experience in MySQL databases.

Salary Range: $100,000 min to $130,000 max, based upon experience.

This is a remote US based position.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• Regularly patch the database servers for the latest security updates and bug fixes
• Fine tune, reindex and oversee performance improvements in the databases    
• Work with the developers to improve queries
• Capacity planning for right dimensioning of resources required for the databases
• Regular backup and restore operations for validating the state of  the backups
• Track slow queries and suggesting improvements
• Define users and enable data distribution to the right user, in the appropriate format, and in a timely manner
• Maintain the structure and check that all database information is clearly formatted and organized
• Define backup strategy
• Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
• Work with the development team to make sure best practices are being used
• Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures, and standards
• Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity
• Work with the Site Reliability team on regular Liinux tasks when free from DBA duties

Qualifications:

• 5 years of experience in Database administration and overall linux systems
• Strong proficiency in MySQL database management
• Good communication and collaboration skills
• Understanding the inner working of MySQL
• Query monitoring and optimization
• Good knowledge of Linux systems
• Interested in NoSQL solutions and migrating to newer technological approaches
• Knowledge or interest in learning AWS and other cloud technologies
• Understanding of Terraform, Ansible and/or other infrastructure-as-code tools
• Experience with database monitoring tools like Datadog or similar tools
