Job Description

Travel + Leisure seeks an experienced Digital Editor to join the Travelandleisure.com team. The editor will produce compelling news, feature and service-based stories that are relevant to our readers and meet our high-quality, journalistic standards.

The ideal candidate is an enterprising, fast-paced journalist who has excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, as well as a deep interest in and knowledge of the travel industry—especially related to hotels and hospitality. The candidate should have strong news judgment, solid sources and industry contacts, the ability to work under tight deadlines, and sharp instincts for distinctive story angles and intriguing headlines.

The editor is responsible for establishing daily, weekly and monthly priorities for coverage. Working closely with the Associate Editorial Director, the editor will write, assign and edit feature and lifestyle news/trend articles, interview experts, contribute ideas toward our hotel and lifestyle coverage and T+L social platforms, and work closely with reporters to break industry news.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assigning and editing lifestyle news and feature stories for T+L’s digital audiences.

  • Establishing editorial calendars and identifying coverage priorities.

  • Reporting and writing lifestyle news or feature stories as necessary.

  • Tracking hotel trends and openings.

  • Forming and cultivating strong industry sources.

  • Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or related field, or equivalent work experience. Interest in entertainment news and food/lifestyle topics is desired.

Experience:

  • 4-7 years experience working in a high volume, digital news operation. Proven experience editing or self-publishing.

  • Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, and a proven ability to lead a team but also work independently.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, impeccable journalistic standards and attention to detail.

  • Deep knowledge of the travel industry, and particularly hotels/hospitality.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and to identify compelling stories and think through breaking news situations and new, fresh story ideas and angles.

  • Knowledgeable about social media, SEO and analytics.

  • Prior experience working with content management tools.

  • Strong understanding of the travel news landscape and evolving audience interests.
