Director, IT Engineering

We are looking for a key contributor & thought leader to join our IT technology team. This role reports to the VP of IT (who reports to the CTO and manages the IT Engineering team and IT Support team).

This position will be responsible for collaboratively architecting, implementing, and managing our Azure/Office 365 architecture & infrastructure. Aya’s infrastructure is 100% cloud based.

This person should also be capable of hands-on technical work (we’re all working managers here) as well managing teams of engineers/managers; teams consisting of Platform Engineering/DevOps (Azure), Data Operations (SQL/OLTP/OLAP), Identity & Collaborations (Office 365), and Endpoint Operations (Intune). The IT engineering team size is around 30 engineers & managers.

Organizational (project/workflow/cultural identity) leadership & communication should be a strong focus of this role.

This role also requires someone who is comfortable working with business stakeholders & vendors on various IT integration projects.

Responsibilities:  

• Lead efforts to architect, implement and manage Office 365 tech stack (E5) to support organizational workflows and endpoints (8000+)
• Collaboratively plan, design, and develop Azure cloud-based solutions with a focus on web applications, databases, storage, networking, and security
• Implement & manage telemetry (logs, metrics, and events) on production systems to create continuous real-time feedback mechanisms, providing insights to the support and development teams (the next generation architecture)
• Provide direction, make requests & recommendations to the DevOps & development teams on areas related to the reliability, maintainability, availability, security, and performance of the system as well as efficiency of the team
• Should be able to provide leadership / lead technical discussions around data operations (storage, data governance, OLAP/OLTP, DBA admin, ETL, reporting)
• Oversee & manage strategic vendor relationships, contracts and licensing (ex: Microsoft Enterprise Agreement).
• Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, SSL/TLS and distributed networks.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to stay focused on completing tasks and meeting goals within a busy workspace.
• Assist in organizing and maintaining security posture.

Required Qualifications: 

• Familiarity with configuring/managing Office 365 and Azure cloud resources.
• 7+ years’ experience in a system/network engineering role
• Strong understanding of all the infrastructure components and how they work - “A generalist”
• Database experience a plus, including knowledge of MSSQL
• Ability to respond to escalated requests in a professional and courteous manner.
• Demonstrable vendor management and enterprise licensing experience.
• Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred

Compensation: Aya reasonably anticipates the pay scale for this position to be an annual salary of $240,000 to $280,000.  

The pay scale for this position may vary if applicant possesses experience outside of what Aya reasonably anticipates for this position. Bonuses are subject to the role and your manager’s discretion.
