AD: Director of Nursing (DON)
Location: El Cajon, CA
Summit College is seeking a qualified candidate to be our full-time Director for the Vocational Nursing Program.

This Director of Nursing will be responsible for the administrative decision-making processes directly relating to the Licensed Nursing Program in accordance with BVNPT, ACCET Accreditation and Summit College Policies and Procedures.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of LVN students.
· Recruit Faculty, development, evaluation, and mentoring and manage all administrative/personnel of nursing staff
· MUST HAVE Academic & Curriculum writing experience
Teach classroom/clinical/theory, as needed
Train new instructors
· Prepare for site visits from accrediting agencies
· Academic planning and program evaluation
· Student Record Administration, Advisement and Retention
· Prepare reports for the institutional accrediting agency.
· Curriculum management inclusive of distance learning
· Clinical site development
· NCLEX preparation and pass rates
· Maintain & Cultivate Strong working relationships with federal, state and local constituencies, accrediting bodies, nursing boards, clinical site personnel & students.
Qualifications: Must meet all BVNPT Title 16 and Regulation 2529 (c) (1) VN Director Requirements:
(A) Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; and
(B) Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school (Master’s degree preferred); and
(C) Have a minimum of three years’ experience as a registered nurse; one year shall be in teaching or clinical supervision, or a combination thereof, in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing school within the last five years; or a minimum of three years’ experience in nursing administration or nursing education within the last five years; and
(D) Have completed a course or courses offered by an accredited school with instruction in administration, teaching, and curriculum development.

Position Job Description:
The Director of Nursing shall plan, supervise and evaluate all aspects of the Nursing Programs assigned to the department, including the LVN, IV Phlebotomy, CPR and CAN and NCLEX Programs. The DON is responsible for assuring that all Instructors who teach in these programs meet all qualification requirements in accordance with the BVNPT.
Essential Functions:
· Work with the faculty to develop and implement a philosophy within the framework of Summit College.
· Assume leadership for the development, implementation, evaluation, training and revision of the curriculum inclusive of distance learning methodologies
· Assist in the development of department policies and procedures.
· Recruits, interviews, and reviews faculty qualifications. Hires, assigns, evaluates and terminates faculty, reporting changes to appropriate board.
· Reports to the Board within 10 days of the termination of a faculty member
· Plans for involvement of faculty in staff development programs
· Holds regular faculty meetings with a planned agenda. Minutes are kept which reflect recommendations made and actions taken. Reports of information received by faculty at workshops, conferences, seminars, etc., are also included in the minutes
· Is involved in the selection, counsel, evaluation and dismissal of students
· Coordinates activities between school and clinical facilities or other agencies
· Furnishes administration of clinical facilities school policies governing students and instructors
· Coordinates with Clinical Coordinator, Business Administrator and staff on a regular basis for staff and student information
· Holds membership in school committees and professional organizations
· The DON shall be knowledgeable and current regarding the programs and the policies and procedures by which it is administered.
· Maintain accurate records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
· Assure all faculty complies with BVNPT regulations as well as Summit College policies
· Observations at Clinical Sites
· State test review and facilitate preparation for students
· Other duties assigned
Licensure Requirements:
Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse, and must be approved by the board. Within 6 months of employment a certificate of completion of the Continuing Education Course in planning, implementing and evaluation in education programs in nursing.
Future Training Requirements:
· CEU maintenance as required by the BVNPT, BPPE and CDPH
