Job Description

Director of Operations – 503A Compounding Pharmacy About the Role: We’re seeking a driven, hands-on Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day execution of a high-volume 503A compounding pharmacy serving patients and providers nationwide. This is a role for a builder and problem-solver — someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, sees around corners, and relentlessly optimizes systems. You’ll oversee all pharmacy operations, from sterile compounding to fulfillment and shipping, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and scalability as we continue rapid growth. If you’re the kind of leader who takes ownership in KPI’s, loves solving bottlenecks before they become problems, and builds teams that run like clockwork, this is your role. Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership ● Lead daily operations achieving desired results across compounding, packaging, fulfillment, and shipping operations. ● Design and improve workflows to increase speed, accuracy, and consistency. ● Manage all of the functional leaders of the operation to achieve organizational success ● Assure that all operational staffing is meeting the needs of the organization ● Monitor throughput and proactively address any bottlenecks or production risks throughout the different operational areas. ● Manage multi-shift schedules to ensure proper coverage and productivity. Compliance & Quality ● Partner with the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to ensure full compliance with USP 795/797/800, DEA, DSCSA, and state regulations. ● Maintain multi-state pharmacy licenses and ensure inspection readiness at all times. ● Collaborate with Quality and Compliance teams to implement corrective and preventive actions. Team Leadership ● Lead and mentor pharmacists, compounding techs, fulfillment staff, and support teams. ● Drive successful operational outcomes with respect to production output, NC reductions and other key deliverables ● Build a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement. ● Create and maintain training programs and SOPs to standardize best practices. Production & Fulfillment ● Oversee sterile and non-sterile production schedules to meet demand without sacrificing quality. ● Manage raw materials, packaging, and shipping inventory to prevent shortages. ● Ensure reliable and compliant shipping across multiple states, including cold chain and hazardous materials handling. Performance Process Optimization ● Track and report KPIs such as compounding output, shipping output, order accuracy, turnaround time, and error rates. ● Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to eliminate waste and boost output. ● Drive adoption of technology, automation, and workflow software to scale operations efficiently. Cross-Functional Collaboration ● Partner with Finance to manage budgets and monitor cost per script. ● Support Business Development with operational readiness for onboarding new providers and patient populations. Qualifications ● 7+ years of leadership experience in pharmacy operations, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing (503A/503B experience preferred). Demonstrated successes in compounding operations, shipping and fulfillment. The incumbent needs to be highly experienced in coordinating successful outputs in these specific areas. ● Proven track record managing high-volume, multi-state mail-order or specialty pharmacy operations. ● Strong understanding of USP 795/797/800, DEA, DSCSA, and state board regulations. ● Skilled at leading cross-functional teams across multiple shifts and locations. ● Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement frameworks. ● Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. ● Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, workflow tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. Who Thrives Here You love being challenged by KPI’s. You anticipate problems before they surface and create solutions that allow your team to achieve your operational goals. You thrive on meeting your goals and then resetting the bar to see what else you can achieve in a team environment You take pride in turning complexity into efficiency, motivating your team, and achieving operational excellence every single day. This is a role for someone who is hungry, detail-oriented, and obsessed with execution. If that’s you, we want to talk. Compensation & Benefits: ● Competitive salary ● Health, dental, and vision insurance ● Paid time off and holidays ● 401(k) with company match ● Opportunities for professional development and growth Job Type: Full-time Work Location: In person
