Director of Operations – 503A Compounding Pharmacy
About the Role:
We’re seeking a driven, hands-on Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day
execution of a high-volume 503A compounding pharmacy serving patients and
providers nationwide.
This is a role for a builder and problem-solver — someone who thrives in fast-moving
environments, sees around corners, and relentlessly optimizes systems. You’ll oversee
all pharmacy operations, from sterile compounding to fulfillment and shipping, ensuring
compliance, efficiency, and scalability as we continue rapid growth.

Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
● Lead daily operations achieving desired results across compounding, packaging,
fulfillment, and shipping operations.
● Design and improve workflows to increase speed, accuracy, and consistency.
● Manage all of the functional leaders of the operation to achieve organizational
success
● Assure that all operational staffing is meeting the needs of the organization
● Monitor throughput and proactively address any bottlenecks or production risks
throughout the different operational areas.
● Manage multi-shift schedules to ensure proper coverage and productivity.
Compliance & Quality
● Partner with the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to ensure full compliance with USP
795/797/800, DEA, DSCSA, and state regulations.
● Maintain multi-state pharmacy licenses and ensure inspection readiness at all
times.
● Collaborate with Quality and Compliance teams to implement corrective and
preventive actions.
Team Leadership
● Lead and mentor pharmacists, compounding techs, fulfillment staff, and support
teams.
● Drive successful operational outcomes with respect to production output, NC
reductions and other key deliverables
● Build a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
● Create and maintain training programs and SOPs to standardize best practices.
Production & Fulfillment
● Oversee sterile and non-sterile production schedules to meet demand without
sacrificing quality.
● Manage raw materials, packaging, and shipping inventory to prevent shortages.
● Ensure reliable and compliant shipping across multiple states, including cold
chain and hazardous materials handling.
Performance Process Optimization
● Track and report KPIs such as compounding output, shipping output, order
accuracy, turnaround time, and error rates.
● Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to
eliminate waste and boost output.
● Drive adoption of technology, automation, and workflow software to scale
operations efficiently.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
● Partner with Finance to manage budgets and monitor cost per script.
● Support Business Development with operational readiness for onboarding new
providers and patient populations.
Qualifications
● 7+ years of leadership experience in pharmacy operations, healthcare, or
regulated manufacturing (503A/503B experience preferred). Demonstrated
successes in compounding operations, shipping and fulfillment. The incumbent
needs to be highly experienced in coordinating successful outputs in these
specific areas.
● Proven track record managing high-volume, multi-state mail-order or specialty
pharmacy operations.
● Strong understanding of USP 795/797/800, DEA, DSCSA, and state
board regulations.
● Skilled at leading cross-functional teams across multiple shifts and locations.
● Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement frameworks.
● Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
● Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, workflow tools, and Microsoft
Office Suite.
