Elastomeric Coating Technician

Department: Roofing – Foam and Coatings Division Reports To: Project Manager Employment Pay: Piece Pay Position Summary The Elastomeric Coating Technician is responsible for the preparation, application, and finishing of elastomeric coating systems on commercial and residential roofs. This position involves working with various roof substrates to apply fluid-applied membrane coatings that enhance weatherproofing, energy efficiency, and roof longevity. The Technician must demonstrate strong technical skills, attention to detail, safety awareness, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship according to manufacturer specifications and company standards. Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation · Perform thorough cleaning of roof surfaces using pressure washers, blowers, brooms, and other equipment. · Conduct substrate repairs as needed, including patching seams, filling cracks, and reinforcing problem areas with fabric or primer. · Inspect roof conditions and report any substrate issues to the foreman or supervisor before application. Coating Application · Properly mix and prepare elastomeric coating materials according to manufacturer specifications. · Apply primers, base coats, and topcoats using sprayers, rollers, squeegees, or brushes, depending on project requirements. · Maintain appropriate application thickness and coverage rates, verifying compliance with project specifications. Equipment Maintenance · Set up, operate, and maintain spray rigs (833 spray rig), pumps, hoses, and pressure washers. · Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of spray equipment and tools. · Ensure all tools and equipment are cleaned and properly stored at the end of each workday. Safety and Compliance · Follow all OSHA safety regulations and company policies related to fall protection, respirator use, and PPE. · Participate in daily jobsite safety meetings and maintain a clean, hazard-free work area. · Report any jobsite accidents or unsafe conditions immediately. Teamwork and Communication · Work effectively with a crew under the direction of the Foreman and Project Manager. · Communicate clearly with team members to coordinate tasks, material needs, and project challenges. · Represent the company professionally on customer properties. Qualifications Education and Experience · High school diploma or GED preferred but not required. · 3 years of hands-on roofing experience, preferably with elastomeric coatings, spray foam, 833 spray rig or other fluid-applied roofing systems. · Familiarity with various elastomeric coating products (e.g., silicone, acrylic, urethane) highly preferred. · Experience working with Graco or similar spray equipment is a strong plus. Skills and Abilities · Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions. · Proficient in the use of spray rigs, rollers, brushes, and other roofing tools. · Strong work ethic and a commitment to quality workmanship. · Ability to read and interpret technical product data sheets and basic blueprints. · Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders, and stand/walk for long periods. · Must have valid Driver License · Bi-lingual is a PLUS Certifications (Preferred, Not Required) · OSHA 10 or 30 Certification. · Manufacturer Certification Training (e.g., Gaco, Henry, Karnak, Mule-Hide). · Respirator Fit Test Certification.
