Job Summary:The Substation Electrical Superintendent provides on‑site leadership for the construction, commissioning, and energization of high‑voltage substations (34.5 kV–500 kV). The role is responsible for safety, quality, schedule, and cost control while directing field crews and coordinating with engineering, vendors, and the client’s representative. The Superintendent is the company’s “eyes and ears” on site, ensuring that all work meets contract documents, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Champion a zero‑incident culture; conduct daily tailgate meetings and site audits.
• Enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and company safety policies; stop work as needed
• Ensure all required permits, lock‑out/tag‑out, and Energized Electrical Work Permits are in place.
• Review drawings, one‑lines, and vendor prints to plan work sequences.
• Develop 3‑week look‑ahead schedules and manpower projections; report variances.
• Coordinate outages and energization windows with utilities/ISO.
• Direct electricians, linemen, and subcontractors in bus work, grounding, conduit, cable, control wiring, protection & control panel installation, and functional testing.
• Verify that materials, tools, and equipment are on site and in compliance with specifications.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, redlines, and as‑built documentation.
• Perform inspections and acceptance checks (megger, Ductor, hipot, CT/PT ratio, relay testing).
• Close NCRs and punch‑list items; ensure deliverables meet IEEE, NETA, and client standards.
• Track installed quantities, timesheets, and equipment hours; mitigate overruns.
• Approve vendor invoices and change‑order requests within delegation of authority.
• Lead weekly progress meetings with the owner, EPC partners, and internal teams.
• Provide daily updates to the Project Manager; escalate critical issues promptly.
Qualifications:
· Experience: 8 + years in high‑voltage substation construction, with 3 + years in a supervisory role (General Foreman or Superintendent).
· Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret electrical and civil drawings, relay schematics, and wiring diagrams; familiarity with protection & control systems and SCADA.
· Certifications: OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid; NETA II/III or journeyman electrician license preferred.
· Education: High‑school diploma or GED required.
· Travel & Work Conditions: Willing to travel/relocate to project sites nationwide; work outdoors in all weather; willing to get in a trench, work at ground level, perform aerial work,lift up to 50 lbs, and communicate.
Preferred Attributes:
• Demonstrated leadership of multi‑craft crews on EPC or design‑build projects.
• Knowledge of renewable‑energy interconnection (solar, wind, BESS) and utility standards (IEEE, NESC).
• Strong communication, coaching, and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Experience with Davis‑Bacon and IRA prevailing‑wage compliance.
