THESE POSITIONS ARE ONLY OPEN TO CANDIDATES WHO ARE PERMANENT (NOT PROVISIONAL) IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF ELECTRICIAN. The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community. The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout ACS to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support services to carry out their respective missions. The Division of Administration (Admin) employs approximately 463 public employees. Admin manages a Personnel Services (PS) Budget of approximately $29M and an Other Than Personnel Services (OTPS) Budget (OTPS) of $140M. It provides services including building maintenance, real estate, design, construction management, facilities and custodial services, occupational safety and health, operational support, security, transportation, and print production. Detention Construction and Building Operation oversee the day-to-day administrative and operational responsibilities of the Facilities and Skilled Trades Team at each site as well as contracted construction project management and city agency (DDC, DCAS, etc.) support. Detention Construction and Building Operation also is responsible for overseeing the successful, comprehensive, and timely execution of several construction projects and routine maintenance with varying levels of complexity, resources, and oversight at the state and local levels. Detention Construction and Building handle all detention related facility matters including but not limited to construction, design, maintenance, repairs, etc. and ensuring the space meets programmatic needs; partner with the Department of Design and Construction to ensure new projects are completed within applicable deadlines and within fiscal parameters. They ensure the routine repair and maintenance of ACS’ secure detention facilities as well as the design and development of construction projects. This includes the monitoring of skilled tradespeople and/or contractors, architects, engineers, and all individuals who provide design services, ensuring safety measures and regulations are followed and work is done completely and as expeditiously as possible. They Engage in critical analysis of current and pending projects and daily work plans keeping the team on track and on task at every level; Create and maintain impeccable records and reports as required. What we’re looking for: The New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is currently seeking to fill the position of electrician. In this role, an Electrician is under the will be under the guidance of the of the Office of Detention Construction & Building Operations. he chosen applicant will be an integral member of the Division of Administration Construction team, which assists ACS’ 7000+ employees and manages a new budget of budget of over $350M. Under supervision, the electrician will work on the installation, repair and maintenance of high- or low-tension electrical systems for light, heat, power and communications in or on buildings, structures and highways; The Electrician would also serve as a special electrician, making applications and obtaining permits and approvals required by rule, regulation and/or statute; prepares reports and maintains records; performs related work. Key responsibilities include: - Install, maintain, and repair high- and low-voltage electrical systems for lighting, heating, and power in office buildings by following plans, specifications, and safety standards to ensure safe and efficient electrification. • Keep a detailed log of work performed, materials received or dispatched, and equipment used by recording relevant information such as subject, time, and disposition to support future reference and supervisor reporting. • Install and repair conduits, moldings, and electrical wiring by identifying faulty connections and testing safety devices to ensure safe conductivity and minimize power outages. • Review the work of electrician's helpers and other assigned personnel by evaluating the quality and quantity of their output to ensure compliance with agency standards and electrical codes. • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, inspectors, and other trades through meetings, conferences, and discussions to resolve technical or coordination issues effectively. • Maintain fire alarm systems by inspecting and replacing defective components to ensure immediate notification during emergencies. • Maintain incandescent and fluorescent lighting systems by testing fixture stability and replacing bulbs or tubes to ensure consistent and efficient illumination. • Construct and install electrical conduits, pipes, and moldings in ceilings and walls by following blueprints and adhering to safety guidelines to ensure proper insulation and wiring. • Facilitate elevator repairs by troubleshooting electro-mechanical components to improve operational efficiency and reduce breakdowns. • Prepare work schedules and assignments for electrician's helpers and support personnel based on the scope and duration of tasks to promote timely and efficient project completion. ELECTRICIAN - 91717 Minimum Qualifications 1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician; or 2. At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician and sufficient full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician's helper or apprentice electrician or education in the electrical or electronic field acquired in an approved trade, technical school or vocational high school or college or university to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 credits, from an accredited college or university, for one year of experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of such helper or apprentice experience, or education in an approved trade or technical school or vocational high school in the electrical or electronic field. Less than a full year of helper or apprentice experience, or relevant education, will receive prorated credit. 3. License Requirements For appointment to certain positions, candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. For assignment as a special electrician, candidates must possess and maintain the license(s) and/or certificate(s) required to perform these duties. Preferred Skills Seven years of full-time experience as an electrician is preferred. Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
