ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Public Works Department is a large, diverse organization with approximately 1,000 employees in six divisions. The department provides internal support for other city departments and external services to Phoenix residents. Internal citywide support functions include alarm services and badging, procurement services, fleet, facilities, and energy management. The department's external service delivery includes garbage and recycling collection service for single-family residential units, including contained and uncontained collections, household hazardous waste disposal, the transfer station, and landfill operations.
Facilities Management Division
The Facilities Operations Division (FOD) provides citywide maintenance services to more than 860 city-owned and leased facilities encompassing 10.6 million square feet, including the downtown campus, police and fire stations, libraries, service centers, senior centers, parks and pools, recreation centers, public transit facilities, arts and cultural facilities, and other city buildings and infrastructure. The FMD team provides electrical, HVAC, building maintenance, project planning, project oversight, Fire/Life Safety, property management, and energy management to city departments and functions through a variety of delivery methods.
The Electrician position will be responsible for:
• Installing, maintaining, repairing & replacing electrical wiring systems, equipment & lighting systems.
• Performing preventative maintenance on electrical equipment and documenting the findings in a central maintenance database.
• Frequent customer contact to ensure excellent service is provided to internal & external requests.
• Using earth-moving equipment, aerial equipment up to 120, and pneumatic equipment to facilitate electrical repairs.
• There will be occasions when this position requires project leadership of other electrical team members, including apprentices, to complete job tasks.
• Utilizing desktop and mobile devices for data entry, communication, and time entry.
This position may require irregular shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, after-hours, and on-call or standby for emergency support and requests.
Standby is currently compensated at $2.50 per hour, with callout requests and responses being paid at time and a half the normal hourly wage.
Available Shifts:
1st shift 6:30 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
2nd shift 1:00 P.M. -11:30 P.M.
3rd shift 11:00 P.M. - 9:30 A.M.
Work location: 100 W. Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003.
SALARY
$35.08 - $47.01 per hour base wage.The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Additional compensation for Unit 2 positions includes:
• Shift differential pay is available for hours worked during nights and weekends.
• Standby is currently compensated at $2.50 per hour.
• Callout requests and responses are paid at time and a half normal hourly wage.
• Paid time off includes 13.5 paid holidays, 12 vacation days, and 15 sick days and personal leave days.
• 401(a), 3.62% employer contribution of base wage for Unit 002 employees.
Internal Only:Please understand that this is pay grade 255. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
• Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
• Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
• Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
• When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Completion of a recognized four year electrical apprenticeship program, or equivalent training,
• OR three years of experience as a skilled electrician.
• Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
• All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
• Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job.
• Positions assigned to work within Police Department buildings and facilities must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here.
• Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Work and Environmental Conditions Requirements:
• At heights up to 100 feet.
• In small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces and equipment enclosures.
• In various outdoor environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
• Local travel within the City of Phoenix between facilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
• Ability to work second shift, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Technical Training, documentation/certifications (OSHA, safety).
Experience with:
• Installing or working with S.E.S, transformer, or generator equipment.
• Lighting installation or controls, troubleshooting and repair.
• Preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Reading blueprints, schematics, and oneline diagrams.
• Commercial and/or industrial electrical practices.
• Working with electrical installations underground.
• Lift / Aerial equipment.
• Managing crews or jobs.
