Summary

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
Qualifications
- Experience applying a basic knowledge of electronic theory and practice, of mathematics, and the fundamentals of physics as they relate to electronics in order to perform a variety of standardized technician tasks.
- Experience using simple troubleshooting procedures and techniques on simple often used pieces of equipment.
- Experience operating and adjusting varied equipment in order to perform numerous standardized tests or operations.
- Experience following written and verbal instructions and performing mathematical, analytical and judgmental tasks.
GS-04: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience applying a basic knowledge of electronic theory and practice, of mathematics, and the fundamentals of physics as they relate to electronics in order to perform a variety of standardized technician tasks.
- Experience operating and adjusting varied equipment in order to perform numerous standardized tests or operations.
- Experience following written and verbal instructions and performing mathematical, analytical and judgmental tasks.
- Experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

Education
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:
GS-05: Successful completion of (a) all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology, or (b) 3 years of study in an accredited (by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) curriculum in electronics, or (c) a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-4 or equivalent. At least 12 of the 24 semester hours must have been in electronics courses.
GS-04: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in engineering, physical science, technology, or mathematics. At least 6 of the 12 semester hours must have been in electronics courses.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. The position often requires irregular hours. This position requires evening and weekend work.
The incumbent will be required to travel for extended periods and in excess of 50 percent of the year.
Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed.
If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
When traveling the duty station is aboard a survey platform and require considerable physical exertion such as standing for extended periods, frequent climbing stairways/ladders, occasionally lifting instrumentation in excess of 50 pounds, crouching or working in restricted areas while the survey platform is in motion. Medical certification of fitness for sea duty is required.
The travel work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous situations and environmental stress, i.e., working with high voltage electronic equipment and/or heavy deck equipment aboard a rolling ship or working aboard a low-flying aircraft.
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
