Position Overview:
Mission Bay Montessori Academy is seeking a passionate and qualifiedElementary Spanish Teacherto inspire students in grades K–5 to explore and enjoy the Spanish language and culture. The ideal candidate is a creative and energetic educator who is fluent in Spanish and experienced in early language acquisition. This teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging, standards-based lessons that foster a love of languages, cultural awareness, and strong communication skills in young learners.
The Spanish Teacher plays a key role in introducing students to the fundamentals of Spanish speaking, listening, reading, and writing through immersive, interactive, and developmentally appropriate instruction. The position requires a deep understanding of both language instruction and elementary pedagogy, and a commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive classroom environment that values cultural diversity and global citizenship.
Key Responsibilities:Instructional Design & Delivery:
• Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Spanish language lessons to students in grades K–5 using age-appropriate methods such as songs, storytelling, games, role-playing, and visuals.
• Teach vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar basics, conversational phrases, and simple reading and writing skills.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with special needs.
• Incorporate cultural studies into the curriculum to expose students to the traditions, holidays, foods, music, geography, and history of Spanish-speaking countries.
• Integrate Spanish instruction with other content areas (e.g., art, music, social studies) when appropriate to support interdisciplinary learning.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring:
• Use a variety of formative and summative assessment tools to evaluate student progress and inform instruction.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and maintain clear records of student achievement.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and learning goals.
Classroom Management & Environment:
• Establish a respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom climate.
• Use positive behavior strategies to promote student engagement, cooperation, and responsibility.
• Create and maintain a visually stimulating classroom that supports immersion and language retention.
Collaboration & Professional Development:
• Collaborate with grade-level teachers, specials teachers, and support staff to enrich curriculum and support students holistically.
• Participate in staff meetings, curriculum planning sessions, school events, and professional development workshops.
• Stay up-to-date with best practices in language instruction, multilingual education, and early childhood pedagogy.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Contribute to school-wide multicultural and language-learning events, such as International Day, Spanish Week, or cultural assemblies.
• Serve as a resource for the school community on Spanish language and Hispanic/Latino cultures.
• Support the school’s mission, vision, and core values in all professional responsibilities.
Qualifications:Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.
• Valid teaching credential or state certification in Elementary Education or Foreign Language Instruction.
• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
• Proficiency in English and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience teaching children in an educational setting, preferably at the elementary level.
• Knowledge of early language acquisition strategies and best practices.
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in Education, Spanish, or Bilingual/Bicultural Studies.
• Experience with dual-language or immersion programs.
• Familiarity with ACTFL proficiency guidelines and standards.
• Technology integration skills for virtual/hybrid language instruction.
• Experience creating inclusive and culturally responsive curriculum.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
• Classroom-based work in a school environment with occasional outdoor or large group activities.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds (e.g., teaching materials, props, equipment).
• May involve some evening or weekend responsibilities for school events or parent communication.

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
