About This Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Embedded Software Engineer to contribute to a high-performance team of like-minded engineers. You will be part of the global teams that develop Carrier's embedded control products. These solutions require the product development and integration with cloud and mobile app interactivity. This individual would be responsible for working with the embedded Software Architect, Software Product Owner, and a passionate embedded software design team on development activities of the embedded firmware group for various embedded products.
The ideal candidate is excited by development of world-class embedded products, working with high-performance firmware development teams, new embedded technologies, and the possibilities the IoT domain offers.

The candidate will have responsibility for the following in addition to adhoc assignments as needed.
- Develop embedded software in support of Carrier's wall controls, thermostats, and embedded equipment controls
- Develop embedded software in support of Carrier's HVAC control systems
- Develop user friendly GUIs for Carrier's wall controls and thermostats
- Experience developing in an Agile software development environment
- Experience leading small development projects
- Works effectively with various engineering functions/disciplines; systems, hardware, validation/reliability and manufacturing
- Writes special test software for hardware and validation/reliability engineering
- Demonstrates the ability to work within a project team
- Balances the responsibilities of sustaining and new product development projects
- Completes prototype and test software development
- Participates in risk identification reviews
- Writes specifications and test plans
- Leads and participates in software inspections and design reviews
- Completes systems integration and software requirements
Level of responsibility:
- Responsible for small projects or multiple tasks within functional subject area
- Makes significant contribution to their team by applying their knowledge of the subject area
- Works with moderate guidance on projects with short-term focus
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of software development experience
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in an Engineering discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- Understanding of C, C++, python and other programming languages
- Experience with industrial IoT protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/REST, MQTT) with a focus on embedded products
- Knowledge and experience with common embedded/internet messaging architectures (UART, RS232/485, SOAP, REST, MQTT)
- Understanding of cyber security technologies, IP-based FW updates, and best practices (certificates, PKI, HSMs, Secure Boot)
- FreeRTOS/Linux experience
- Experience with various connectivity protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigbee, etc.)
- Experience with socket APIs
- Experience with software architecture and design patterns
- Familiarity with debugging
- Experience with configuration/change management systems such as Jira/Confluence
- Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities
- Experience with ARM Microcontrollers (preferred)
- (HVAC) System Design Experience (preferred)
