In Finland Grid Solutions is engineering and manufacturing systems for electrical substations.

Our GE Center of Excellence in Tampere delivers reactive power compensators such as Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) and Static Var Compensators (SVC). These are used to control power system voltage and reactive power flow as well as to improve the power system stability and transmission system efficiency. STATCOMs and SVCs are also typically used to improve the integration of renewables to the power system making the future power system more sustainable.

Our business is growing rapidly and 95% of the systems manufactured in Tampere are exported globally.

Job Description

What you will be doing ...
You will lead the team to enable successful STATCOM-project delivery for global FACTS projects. Your responsibility includes Thyristor- and IGBT-based valve technology, MV-equipment, cooling system, mechanical structures / layout and on-site installations supervision. You will interact with the Design Team members, other global engineering teams, Project Managers / Project Engineering Managers, Tendering and NPI (New Product Introduction) program leaders.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Managing team on technical analysis of new tenders, projects' design work

(eg. noise- and seismic-studies, MV-equipment specifications, layout and

structures), NPI and reference design development
• Manage subcontracted/contractor work
• Develop and maintain EM-design processes and tools for global delivery

model (eg Building Information Modelling , Autodesk Revit )
• Participate in projects' schedule planning and ensure resource availability

Desired characteristics
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering
• Knowledge of electrical substation technologies
• Understand project engineering processes and able to lead a team
• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• English - mandatory, Finnish - preferred
