Job Description

(This position is based in Trepp's NYC office which operates in a hybrid work schedule)

Trepp has multiple opportunities for individuals with strong hands-on background in programming and people management to undertake challenging projects in our Technology department.  We provide a collaborative team environment where our technologists work closely with product and subject matter experts in addition to other technology team members and are empowered to impact the organization through leadership, creativity, and innovation.

The Full Stack Group at Trepp is responsible for creating and developing our suite of software products. Being a member of the Full Stack Group allows you the flexibility to learn and hone your skills on a number of various tools and technologies. You’ll have the experience to work with and create services based on data lakes, caching infrastructures, and container-based applications. Our products focus on data and analytics in the structured finance, commercial real estate, and banking verticals. This team works closely with our Product Groups to always refine our product and feature sets, improve overall user experience, along with creating new Product Workflows.

We are looking for an experienced manager to help us grow, facilitate and support multiple facets of the engineering team and process. This individual will manage multiple software engineers (3-6+) of various experience levels and also participate heavily in the technical architecture review process to support technical product managers as well as other product stakeholders. Since the Full Stack Group is heavily involved in UX design as well as back-end architecture decisions, we are seeking a candidate that is well rounded across their technical background and not overly proficient in one specific area of full stack development. We are seeking someone that will be able to drive decision making and act as a support mechanism for individuals as well as technical decision making.

Responsibilities:

  • Hiring manager for multiple full stack engineers, nurturing their personal development.
  • Act as support for multiple project teams, depending on individual experience level.
  • Take part in technical planning and estimation at quarterly or half-year roadmaps for upcoming projects.
  • Ensure your project team’s sprint capacity is met to meet allocations towards Product and Engineering tasks.
  • Act as the technical communicator for your project team. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders for communicating timelines and risk.
  • Identifying and mitigating risk as better understanding of project team open development is realized. This candidate will be able to candidly discuss concerns for feature requests and pushback when necessary.
  • Identify critical infrastructure/dependency updates as they are needed and work to plan those tasks into upcoming sprints as part of the sprint engineering allocation.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, source management, and testing.
  • Act as a project team support mechanism by facilitating code reviews, providing guidance on architecture reviews, helping to unblock team members and short-circuiting bad design decisions.

Required Skills:

  • 2+ years of professional experience managing software engineering teams.
  • 6+ years of professional, hands-on software development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of various API patterns and the trade-offs between each.
  • Demonstrated experience of being able to plan small to mid-size projects while also considering future technical limitations of that design.
  • Strong documentation skills (Markdown, you like GitHub READMEs), generating architecture design documents, and the ability to communicate requirements to other team members and project stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with driving architecture design and soliciting feedback from team members to net out on an ideal project architecture.
  • Excellent knowledge and debugging skills for all portions of our tech stack. Including but not limited to JavaScript/TypeScript, NodeJS, Github Actions, Docker, and AWS infrastructure.
  • You have worked with product stakeholders to create actionable engineering work and complete it through iterative delivery.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of modern front-end development, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS and React.

Preferred Skills:

  • Deep experience with React, related frameworks and recent implementation patterns (think hooks, global state management, NextJS, React Query, etc).
  • Experience developing APIs and Services running on cloud technologies utilizing docker and container strategies such as ECS.
  • Expertise in building and maintaining the correct sets of automated tests for a given project.
  • Ability to manage horizontally and vertically, in addition to managing multiple reports, to drive change within the organization.
  • Familiarity with using analytical tools, such as user event tracking and real user monitoring, to drive functionality and feature decisions.
  • Experience creating SLAs for products or being a part of driving on-call monitoring and/or alarm creation.

Salary Range:

  • Base salary starting from $160k plus bonus eligible
