Job purpose

This is an intern/co-op position for an Engineering Student at our Propulsion Technical Center in Auburn Hills, MI. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with prototype builds, testing, data collection, and reporting on results. In addition, the student may take on special assignments as they arise. In the event that the student is available for multiple terms/semesters (preferred), they will transition more into engineering assignments increasing in responsibility as they progress towards their degree.

Key responsibilities

Lab Development:

  • Assist with prototype builds
  • Assist with prototype testing - functional and validation tests
  • Test set-up, and data collection set-up
  • Part measurement
  • Data management - download, format, and present data in an organized fashion

Problem solving:

  • Assist with failure/root cause analysis
  • Assist with urgent customer issues (product sorts, build concerns, etc.)

Product Development:

  • Support benchmarking activities - comply with the BW Emissions benchmarking process
  • Test competitor components, report results including teardown analysis
  • Compose design verification reports
  • Photo documentation of test samples
  • Assist with teardown analysis
  • Report results and conclusions
  • Assist with drawing checking & releases
  • Considers and seeks out the impact of his/her actions within the team.
  • Actively seeks collaboration with internal and external team members
  • Willing to do some travel if necessary
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

What we're looking for

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Student working towards a bachelor's degree (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Preferred)
  • Must be able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude
  • GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Proficiency with computer and MS Office products preferred
