Exposure Management Analyst
Reporting to the Head of Exposure Management London with hybrid working
The role:
At Hiscox we are investing in developing our Exposure Management capabilities. This is in the area of research, technology and process efficiency. In this role you will support the Exposure Management process across Property, Casualty, Cyber lines. This role gives great opportunity to develop a range of Exposure Management skills and has exposure to a number of Exposure Management disciplines.
In the area of Natural Catastrophe risk we have a mature process built on 15 years’ experience that helps us assess the bets we are taking and measure and hedge risk effectively. Natural Catastrophe risk is still important to us, and we seek to innovate and evolve our view of risk to make better decisions and improve the balance of risk to profit. In addition to natural catastrophe risk, we have also invested in Cyber, Casualty and War & Political violence Exposure Management. In this role you will support a number of these activities and develop a good understanding of the risks the company faces.
The team:
The Group Exposure Management team are part of the Group Underwriting Risk & Reinsurance team who are responsible for ensuring our largest risks are identified, understood, measured, priced and hedged effectively. The broader team is made up of 30 people across Reinsurance Purchase, Reinsurance Finance, Underwriting Risk Analytics, Casualty, Cyber, and Property Exposure Management. These teams work with an Operations & Development team and PA, and report into the Director of Underwriting Risk & Reinsurance, who reports to the Group CUO.
The team’s goals are:
- Ensure catastrophe exposures are understood, measured, and communicated and are in line with internal and external appetites – no surprises
- Ensure best practice in risk modelling and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Meet internal committee, regulatory, and rating agency reporting requirements
- Support reinsurance purchase
- Provide inputs to other internal teams – Risk/Capital
Success will result in:
- Clear, reliable reporting of exposures which then supports:
- Risk identification and mitigation
- Exposure Management
- Strategic decision making – profit vs risk
This will be achieved by:
- A robust understanding of exposures and coverages of the lines of business across the Group
- A good understanding of the types of perils we are exposed to
- Building great relationships with analysts and underwriting teams across the different business units
- Working to improve the reporting and roll up processes that we perform each quarter
You will be responsible for:
- Development of efficient data collection and reporting process
- Clear reporting of major risks through RDS or modelled ‘EP curve’ results
- Communication of exposure movements with business units
- Project support for a range of Exposure Management focussed projects
Person Specification:
- Highly numerate (Maths/Economics/Physics/Computer Science Degree preferred, or exceptional A levels)
- Strong SQL, R, Python and/or Excel skills
- Good at working with different people
- Strong attention to detail
