JOB SUMMARY:This hybrid position combines project estimating (60%) and fabrication/welding (40%) responsibilities to support Olympus Group’s Fabrication Department. The Project Estimator / Fabrication & Welding Associate plays a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates, coordinating materials and labor planning, and contributing hands-on fabrication and welding expertise to ensure successful and timely completion of projects. The role requires both analytical and technical skill, bridging project planning and on-the-floor execution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Estimating (Approx. 60%)
• Understand project scope, drawings, and requirements for trade show, event, and custom fabrication projects.
• Determine key variables for cost and time estimates, including labor, materials, and equipment needs.
• Gather first-hand information from the shop floor, job sites, or warehouses to verify measurements and production needs.
• Conduct research and data collection on labor costs, materials, and production times.
• Use estimating software and spreadsheets for analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
• Obtain and review offers and quotes from subcontractors and vendors.
• Perform risk and variance analysis to identify potential cost or timing impacts.
• Create and submit detailed estimate reports, bids, or proposals to management, sales, and project managers.
• Collaborate with project teams to plan job schedules, material procurement, and manpower allocation.
• Maintain relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors to ensure material and service reliability.
Fabrication & Welding (Approx. 40%)
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to fabricate and assemble metal components.
• Operate MIG, TIG, and Stick welding equipment to produce high-quality welds.
• Cut, fit, and finish metal parts using hand tools and machinery.
• Inspect and test welded joints to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
• Maintain welding and fabrication equipment, ensuring proper safety and operational readiness.
• Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
• Assist in complex fabrication projects requiring precision and creativity.
• Mentor and train junior fabrication associates (Associate I) in welding techniques, safety, and equipment care.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase shop efficiency and product quality.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in metal fabrication and welding.
• Prior experience as an estimator or similar position within a fabrication, trade show, or event production environment.
• Proficient in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
• Strong understanding of materials, metalwork processes, and production timelines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating or project management software.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with vendors, project managers, and cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability.
• Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) credential is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time
• Able to work in a Warehouse/Manufacturing environment. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Occasional on site reviews and evaluations in outdoor conditions
• Office environment for estimating and project reviews
• Warehouse and Manufacturing environment with occasional loud noises
