Position Overview

This position will report to the Vice President of Corporate Development and is responsible for developing presentation materials and models, reviewing key documents and agreements, and analyzing business cases and strategic growth strategies for LanzaTech’s worldwide business in biotech-based carbon capture and transformation. These analyses will support finance, capital markets, project development, business case, and strategy initiatives. This person will also be responsible for collaborating with team members across the company in various departments such as corporate finance, development, strategic initiatives, engineering, legal, and risk--receiving strong exposure to LanzaTech’s management and executive teams. The candidate will work to balance value optimization with transaction risks, strategic growth initiatives, and overall business objectives.

 Responsibilities

• Evaluate potential investment opportunities including co-investment and co-development models
• Execute project valuations, comparable transaction analysis, and gather marketplace intelligence
• Manage tasks according to budgets and schedules, including coordinating internal and external technical support and consultants
• Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis to assess risk and ranges of outcomes
• Communicate with external advisors including financial and tax & accounting professionals
• Check accuracy and update financial models of projects the firm has invested in the past
• Serve as a reliable representative of the finance team on internal project teams and discussions
• Integrate modeling outputs into investment pitch presentations and documents
• Provide narrative analysis on financial models for project financing and investment consideration.
• Compile and maintain support files to justify project assumptions.
• Monitor project finance markets, identifying benchmark structured energy transactions
• Support and help maintain the company-level long term forecast model
• Build advanced project finance pro forma economic models to provide forecasts of biofuels and carbon recycling chemicals projects
• Integrate historical data and inputs generated through due diligence into detailed three-statement financial models
• Assist and manage select corporate finance workstreams to integrate project development and project finance initiatives into overall business strategy
• Research of individual companies and industries
• Analysis of investment and economic environment
• Competitive analysis and benchmarking
• Work with structured finance team to continuously refine LanzaTech’s project financial model and support our asset portfolio
• Interface with the policy team to understand regulatory tariffs, state incentive programs and federal tax benefits
• Other duties as identified by the supervisor

Required Skills

• A BS or BA from an accredited college program, master’s degree or MBA a plus.
• 3+ years’ work experience of progressively responsible financial analysis and financial modeling experience
• Expert-level financial modeling skills using Excel, with exposure to management of complex models, including deep knowledge about formulas, charts, pivot tables; macros and VBA a plus
• Proficient knowledge of accounting, finance, and valuation; project finance and tax equity a plus
• Strong organizational, networking, leadership, time management, and accounting skills.
• Strong public speaking and personal skills, comfortable communicating with all types of stakeholders
• Ability to synthesize information to write effective, concise reports and presentations
• Organizational skills; able to simultaneously manage multiple projects in parallel in various phases
• Self-motivated and autonomous; outspoken about what is needed to get a job done
• Aggressive risk management approach; ability to anticipate problems before they impact project timelines
• Advanced skills in PowerPoint and Word for developing professional communications
• Critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and solve complex problems
• Potential to travel up to 10-20%, including internationally

Preferred Skills

• Capital markets experience (investment banking, private equity, or commercial lending)
• Transactional experience including debt, equity, and government incentives
• Experience with project finance or energy structured finance, including tax equity
• Familiarity with chemicals and biofuels markets, cleantech and low-carbon finance, and renewable energy
• Engineering or business degrees preferred
• Several years of experience in similar role preferred
