Company Overview The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is the largest performing arts organization in the Southwest, dedicated to presenting world-class orchestral music and inspiring audiences through innovative programming. Under the leadership of Music Director Fabio Luisi, the DSO reaches over 243,000 individuals annually through performances and educational initiatives. Summary of Position: Oversee the financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting for the Dallas Symphony Association and Dallas Symphony Foundation. Serves at primary contact for the annual audit. Oversee tax reporting and other accounting functions. Supervises senior accountant and provide training as needed. The Controller also serves as one of the administrators for Sage Intaact and APA online accounts payable system and is backup reviewer for the bi-weekly payroll. Assist the CFO with ad hoc reporting or other projects as needed. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting β€’ Prepare monthly financial statements at a department and corporate level for internal and external use including board reporting. β€’ Assist in maintenance of financial reporting model β€’ Perform general financial analysis and variance analysis of results against budget and forecast. β€’ Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards β€’ Manage cash flow β€’ Ad hoc analysis as requested β€’ Manage the monthly close process Budgeting & Forecasting β€’ Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with department heads and CFO β€’ Monitor budget and forecast performance and provide variance analysis β€’ Assist in creating and maintenance of financial models for budgeting and forecasting Audit & Compliance β€’ Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors in collaboration with the Director of Accounting Operations β€’ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations β€’ Maintain internal controls and risk management procedures Grant & Fund Management β€’ Oversee reporting for grant requests and follow up reporting β€’ Ensure financial reporting aligns with donor and grantor requirements Team Leadership and Drive Value β€’ Supervise finance staff and foster professional development β€’ Promote a collaborative and ethical work environment β€’ Provide financial training to non-finance staff as needed β€’ Work collaboratively with other departments to foster teamwork and establish best practices β€’ Identify areas for improvement and assist in streamlining processes and procedures Special Projects β€’ Provide ad hoc financial reporting or analysis as requested β€’ Participate and potentially manage financial or other projects as requested Job Requirements β€’ Minimum 5 Yrs of accounting and financial statement preparation β€’ Bachelor’s degree in accounting β€’ CPA preferred β€’ Experience with non-profit accounting and reporting β€’ Critical thinker with hands-on problem-solving skills β€’ Experience with accounting and budgeting in a complex corporate structure β€’ Job cost related experience is necessary in this role β€’ Advance excel skills for financial models used in reporting, budgeting and forecasting β€’ Detail oriented and organized β€’ Strong communication skills β€’ Ability to manage time and prioritize β€’ Experience in Sage Intacct, and Microsoft Office a plus The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is an equal opportunity employer.
