Job Title Master Carpenter Residential Remodeling Employment Type Full Time Job Location Saddle Brook, NJ (HQ) projects throughout Northern New Jersey Salary Range $28 -$40 per hour Position Summary The Master Carpenter is the on-site expert who drives carpentry excellence for finish work. You will lead project work, enforce quality and safety standards, and coordinate with project managers to keep timelines and budgets on track. Objectives (Key Duties) • Perform and supervise all phases of carpentry—framing, trim, cabinetry, and custom finishes • Verify all work meets or exceeds building codes and internal quality standards • Interpret blueprints and plan work sequences, material needs, and crew assignments • Lead, mentor, and evaluate carpenters and apprentices to build skill and efficiency • Provide on-the-job training on tool safety, layout, and advanced carpentry techniques • Coordinate daily with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades to maintain schedule • Conduct proactive quality and safety inspections; correct deficiencies immediately • Maintain a clean, organized worksite and uphold company appearance standards • Document progress and communicate issues or change conditions promptly • Represent the company professionally to homeowners, answering carpentry-related questions • Resolve field challenges with creative, code-compliant solutions • Ensure tools and equipment are serviced, secure, and used safely • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing field feedback with leadership Competencies (Skills & Attributes) • Master-level rough and finish carpentry expertise • Strong knowledge of residential building codes and OSHA safe-work practices • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications • Leadership that motivates and holds crew members accountable • Clear verbal and written communication with clients and team members • Precise layout, measurement, and problem-solving skills • High attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship • Organized approach to material staging and time management • Tech-friendly—able to use mobile apps for timekeeping, photos, and plan review • Valid New Jersey driver’s license with clean record Education & Experience • Minimum five years’ residential carpentry or remodeling experience with proven crew leadership • Formal carpentry apprenticeship, vocational certificate, or equivalent hands-on training preferred • OSHA 10, lead-safety, or other trade certifications are a plus Physical Requirements • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver materials up to 50 lbs • Stand, crouch, climb ladders, and work at heights up to eight hours per day • Tolerance for indoor and outdoor environments in all New Jersey seasons Commitment to Diversity On the Spot Home Improvements is an equal-opportunity employer.
