About the Role
This role reports to the onsite Branch Manager in Austin, TX. AFS is looking for Fire Sprinkler Designer/Project Manager for immediate opportunities in Austin, TX. The preferred candidate will manage all logistical and customer service aspects of the fire sprinkler system installation for commercial, industrial, and Multi-home buildings.
What you’ll do (day to day)
• Track the progress of projects
• Work to ensure projects meet time and budget requirements.
• Read and interpret contract documents, including all disciplines of construction drawings and specifications
• Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction
• Review construction contract documents.
• Conduct long-range project planning and scheduling
• Identify changes in projects that impact cost, schedule, or labor requirements
• Make sure change orders/change estimates are completed in a timely manner
• Design “For Construction” fire protection sprinkler systems, including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, and deluge systems, with accuracy and detail to enable field installation.
• Create system designs using specialized fire sprinkler layout software (AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD)
• Perform basic hydraulic calculations
• Submit design plans to Local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) for approval and obtain permits as required
• Create material lists and fabrication reports for projects
• Conduct site surveys, communicate with field personnel, coordinate systems with all building trades, and participate in BIM modeling and coordination meetings.
Required Education and Experience
• Minimum 2+ years of fire protection project management experience
• General MS Office skills – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
• Excellent communicator, self-motivated individual with great organizational skills
• Must be willing to travel as required to project field locations
• Decision-making ability and leadership skills
• Time management and organization skills
• Texas RME-I or RME-G is a plus
• Technical understanding of Fire Sprinkler Design including Wet, Dry systems
• Normal work hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00AM – 4:00PM
• A commercial sprinkler design systems background or a basic level of comfort.
• Financial responsibility for projects.
• Candidates must pass a drug screen.
• Candidates must be able to show proof of work eligibility.
• High School diploma or equivalent, plus
• 3+ years of experience in the desired trade
• 2+ years AutoSPRINK and/or HydraCAD
• Minimum Level II NICET certification in the desired field required (or the ability to obtain Level II within the first year of employment)
