Functions as a representative of the Firearm Records Bureau at the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services. Responsible for the preparation and processing of non-resident firearms applications; assists in the dissemination of firearm licensing and Massachusetts firearm law information from law enforcement and the general public; performs related work as required.

  1. Assist licensees with the creation of accounts and account maintenance on the MIRCS licensing Portal.
  2. Monitor and maintain MIRCS serial number registry.
  3. Prepare and review incoming non-resident firearms license applications.
  4. Schedule and complete in-person interviews for non-resident firearms license applications.
  5. Perform criminal record checks.
  6. Conduct searches of all appropriate databases for firearm license or transaction information in response to requests from law enforcement agencies and public citizens.
  7. Review criminal record checks of licenses for conformance to state and federal laws.
  8. Perform related duties such as data entry; typing material; operating electronic data systems and applications containing various records and files; and assuring accuracy.
  9. Assist law enforcement agencies and the public by providing information about firearms licensing and firearms law in Massachusetts.
  10. Provide support of the Massachusetts Instant Record Check System (MIRCS) to local law enforcement agencies and firearms dealers.
  11. Review and activation of MIRCS licenses.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of the Firearms Records Bureau.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.

II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.


*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
